    • 4th of july

New York City 1 hours ago

Hi! I will be in NYC during July 4 week and want to see the fireworks. Ive been reading that in order to get a good spot for free viewing along the harbour you need to arrive in the afternoon and wait wait wait! I really dont want to waste my precious vacation days standing in the middle of a crowd for hours on end. What will happen if we wait until early evening to head down, say 7:30 ish. Will we still be able to stand at the edge of the crowd and have an unobstructed view? Thanks for any insight!

      Sedona Jun 16, 2013 at 3:35 PM

When I visited Sedona last year, I went to an outdoor market at the Oak Creek Factory Outlets. There was a man who had a table of sterling silver jewelry. His jewelry did not tend to be Native American. He had some very nice dragonfly charms and pendants. I know this is a shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if anyone might be familiar with him. I would like to purchase a piece of his jewelry. He told me he lived in Arizona, but not Sedona. He is a silversmith., but he had retired from another profession.

      Honolulu Jun 13, 2013 at 9:21 PM

Looking for recommendations for accommodation, restaurants, car hire and things to do which would be suitable for 3 kids under 6 years of age.
We are budget travellers which might be a bit hard in Hawaii but looking for self contained accom which is handy to most things preferably under US$200 / night.
We would like to have a good look around Oahu so car hire our best option i think. Just wondering if it is worth looking for accom on some other part of the island for a few days or keep our sightseeing as day trips?
My wife would love to shop, its high on her list of priorities. Mine is food and eating.

    • First Time To GNP Early Sept. 2013

Glacier National Park Jun 12, 2013 at 11:16 AM

My husband and I are flying in from South Carolina to Spokane renting a car and driving to GNP arriving Friday Sept 6. and will fly out of Spokane home the following Saturday. Right now we have reservations at Glacier Campground in a camper cabin (west Glacier) for the entire stay. My question, should we plan to stay maybe 1 night in East Glacier or is the drive back and forth reasonable? We plan to see as much as possible and try to hike at least some almost every day. Most will probably be shorter hikes and we may try part of Highline Trail but not the whole thing. So I guess I am just not sure about driving back and forth multiple times in a week is doable?? Thanks for any suggestions.

    • Visiting OU Medical Center

Oklahoma City Jul 17, 2012 at 9:28 AM

I'm visiting the OU Medical Center in either September or October. I read that best hotels would be in downtown/Bricktown. I was looking at the Hampton Inn Bricktown and wanted to know if this was a good hotel and location. I was looking at the room rates and seems to be more expensive in October than September which I was surprised about. Anyway I wanted to know if there is any form of transportation from the hotel to the Medical Center. Also I should have 2 or 3 days to sightsee, is there plenty to do in this area. Quail Springs Mall would also be of interest if there it is not to far away and easy to get to. Lastly wondered what month would be best to come and what the weather is like. Thanks!!

Residence Inn Oklahoma City Downtown/Bricktown or SpringHill Suites Oklahoma City Airport? Am assuming Residence Inn is actually in Bricktown but is Springhill suites walking distance to Bricktown? Both have similar ratings on Tripadvisor so debating between the 2. The date we will be traveling Residence Inn is119 and Springhill Suites116...not much difference so i guess proximity to sights and cleanliness are the deciding factors! Thanks much!

      Questions about Route 69

      Oklahoma Aug 29, 2009 at 9:28 PM

Hi! I'm traveling to Texas later this summer, and am looking for a new route to try (just for something different.) I'm thinking of cutting through Oklahoma via route 69 (from I-40 down to the border.) Looks like it's about 130 miles - but anyone know the general speed limits? Looks like you pass through a few towns, so I'm sure it slows a little here and there. How fast can you do it in without a stop? 3 hours? Normally, I cross over to I-35 and head south, am I adding a ton of headache and nothing to look at with this change? Little kids on the trip, so I do have to be aware of time. Thanks in advance!

      Tulsa Oct 2, 2008 at 7:28 AM

If downtown is deserted on the weekend, as one member has suggested, then where do you eat? I live near New Haven, CT and it is similar there and many places do not stay open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday, at all. What about Tulsa? We will be staying at the Ambassador, but there were some places downtown of interest to us for dining.

    • Deep Deuce Club- Kallaz Band

Oklahoma City Aug 10, 2007 at 10:51 AM

A couple years ago a really grat evening spot closed and I wonder if they relocated somewhere with a new name. The club was the Deep Deuce Club or the Deep Deuce Jazz Cafe, not to be confused with the Deep Deuce Cafe. These are two distinct places. The Club i'm referring to was an African american owned and operated business that also catered to the African American Culture and music. It was a very nice and well run establishment with the exception of the patrons being too loud as they lfet the establishment at the end of the night. Actually the club it'self was very nice. There was a dress code in order to enter on certain nights, REALLY GREAT FOOD, GREAT MUSIC, and friendly staff and clientel. The highlight of the establishment was the house band. I believe their name was the Kallaz band (of somethng to that effect). They are incredible musicians. It seems their marqui performances were on what they call Kareoke Night where partons could display thier tallents by singing or performing a song of thier choice...provided that the band knew the song. Trure to thir tallents the kallaz band usually did know the song (very well) and if they didn't know it they were most certainly familiar with it. and in the event someone pulled a song out of thier sleeve that no one knew they could certinly improvise it. To top it all off these guys were familiar with all kinds of musical generes. Okay so my question... is anyone familar with this club and if so what happened to the place? If they didn't relocate then WHERE CAN I FIND THE KALLAZ BAND?
