Hey, I am travelling through Scotland at the moment to find the best place to live... At the moment I am in Oban. Who would like to go into a pub, a restaurant, cinema or ding some trips with me?
Hope to hear from you soon!
When are the peak and off-peak seasons for travelling to Oban???
I'll be staying at a guesthouse in the vicinity of Albert Road, and the proprietors say there's street parking or a local pay and display car park. How likely is it that I'll be able to find street parking in August? Does anyone have any tips for a safe place to park without paying? Thanks very much.
Hello all, it appears I made a bit of a tactical error planning our upcoming trip to Scotland - taking public transit on a Sunday. We were planning to take the bus from Inverness to Fort William, then change to a bus to Oban... but the bus Fort William to Oban doesn't run on Sundays. Oops...
Looking at various resources, it seems we have 3 choices. The first, suggested by Citylink's website, is to take the bus to Tyndrum and change there for the bus to Oban. The second, suggested by the Travel Scotland app, suggests the train to Crianlarich, changing there for the train to Oban (this would involve about a 2-hour layover in Fort William right around lunchtime - not the worst option in the world). The third, also suggested by Travel Scotland, would be to take the bus from Inverness to Spean Bridge, then changing for the train to Crianlarich (and on to Oban).
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
Does the ferry terminal have a place to store bags?
Is there anything to do within a very short walk from the terminal area - food, shops?
I've checked the Oban travel guide and there's nothing on this.
We plan to spend a few days around Oban and take the ferry to the isles but are not able to book ahead, are there any spots around Oban where we can park a motorhome for the night without treding on anyone's toes. Two adults in completely self suficient vehicle. we are happy to have our evening meal in a restaurant or hotel in exchange for staying in the car park.
We had booked Seafood Temple for sat 5th dec only to be informed by phone yesterday that it was closed on that date.No reason given. It was disapointing because it was our main reason for visiting Oban after a superb meal some months back.I have heard of a small restaurant called room 9 also in Oban , has any member any info re quality etc.. much obliged.
Unfortunately our hotel, The Caledonian, seems not to have car parking spaces. Can any member advise how far away or where free public car parking is available or alternately any othe parking in close proximty to the hotel location, thank you..
Hi, just planning an itinerary around Scotland in June, I'm up to Oban and was wanting to go to the Outer Hebrides but the ferry sailings aren't frequent enough. So I am now thinking of going from Oban by bus (or train) to the Isle of Skye, but all I can find on the net is a bus to Fort William at 08:40, is this the only bus?
Also from Fort William, is it best to go to Isle of Skye via Kyle of Lochalsh or Mallaig? Im thinking Mallaig at the moment.
Any help would be much appreciated! :-)
which good fish restaurant would you recommend in Oban?
has anyone stayed in the Altanova Guesthouse in Oban? Someone recommended it to me and from the website it looks quite pretty. Is it far away from the main centre? What about the surrounding area? From what I saw in the website the owners look very familiar and I think it's the typical place that suits us.
we will be visting Oban just for one day and we plan to sleep over. We are looking for an accomodation which is in the city center and which is not so expensive (say 60 GBP for a double room).
Can you recommend anything in particular? What do you think of the Kelvin Hotel and The Balmoral Inn? Are these central? Has anyone stayed in them?
I'll be in Oban in July with a group of 15 (teenagers and adults).
We have25 US dollars/per person for lunch and dinner.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, and just because the group includes teenagers we would like seafood options, etc.
I just spent a week in a flat on High Street, Oban, and there was some serious supernatural activity going on on the final evening: repeated knocking on the inside of a locked cupboard, cold air currents swirling around in the hallway outside the cupboard door and a general feeling of unease. Plus on the previous night, something banged hard against my bedroom door (located right next to the locked cupboard), like it was trying to get into the room.
Does anyone know if there's a history of haunting in a property on High Street? Or where to try to find out?
Coming back to Oban for my birthday (October) and we want to rent a couple of lodges or cottages. can anyone recommend somewhere as there seems to be zillions advertised, i want 2-3 lodges in close proximity as there are a few of us with great views if possible.
Ok thanks guys!
Is it worth a detour to visit the Oban sealife sanctuary? How many aquaria does the place have? Can the children participate actively in the displays or is it only passive watching? How long time is recommended to tour the place?
Hello, This may be a rather strange question, but I'll ask it anyway. I'm getting married at the Ardanaiseig Hotel on Loch Awe (about 45 minutes from Oban) and am looking for a hairdresser and beautician in the area, and preferably one that could come out to the hotel on the morning of 26 February 2005 to do my hair and makeup. I won't have an awful lot of time in the morning to go to Oban and back myself. I hope someone can help me out. Looking forward to my trip to Scotland :-) Spreeuw
Does anyone know when it will be held in 2004?
is there anything worth seeing in oban?
