I understand that there is a town of Alesund. Is this town close to NY Alesund?

hy, no, Ny-Alesund is in the Svalbard Island, Artic Sea, Alesund in the west Norway, between Bergen and Trondheim. There are 2000 kms between Alesund and Ny-Alesund. Ciao, Marco

Oh no they are not close at all and their case is similar to York in UK and New York in the US:
b.t.w. in Ny Alesund you will find the northnmost postoffice in the world !
Ny Alesund is in Spitzbergen / Svalbard !
