No, they're not going trekking. They will be visiting a dear friend in a village called Morkhun. Do you know the place? They will be with 4 others in the group. They will be met in Islamabad by their Pakistani friend, spend one night in ISB then fly to Gilgit the next day. In Gilgit they will rent a van and drive to Morkhun. My question is: should we try to make as many reservations(hotels/jeep/van) as we can from here (Japan) through a tour operator in Islamabad and take comfort in knowing that arrangements are in place even though a little expensive, OR have our friend come and meet us in ISB and make the arrangements on the spot? Would this be cheaper since he is Pakistani and he'll know how to bargain and will know what is reasonable? But, since the dates are 8/2 to 8/11, is there a chance hotels and car rentals will be fully booked, etc. What would you advise? Thank you in advance.
thats not an easy question to answer. But I had no trouble finding transport in Pakistan, the country is well networked. Although, bus times are when the bus is full and the roads can be a bit rough. NATCO is the Northern Areas Bus Company, state owned, and travels daily to the Northern Areas. I would just organise it upon arrival.
