Hi everybody, My plane will arrive at 8 am at Colombo Airport and I wanted go directly by bus to Polonnaruwa, which would be convenient as first step as I would like to start my visit with the Cultural Triangle. However, I've read on this forum that it was not advisable as it is a very long trip (7 hours?) with many people standing in the bus. 1) Would you advise to go directly to Polonnaruwa by bus? 2) Are there any AC buses going directly from Katunayake bus station to Polonnaruwa and how long would it take ? or do I have to go to Colombo City first? 3) From Colombo City, are there often AC buses to Polonnaruwa with chances to have a seat? 4) How long takes the bus n°187 from Katunayake bus station to Colombo City at about 9 am? I am organizing a trip for my parents to Sri Lanka. I am wondering if it is reasonable to take them to Sigiriya. If they get tired and cant make it to the top, will there be things to see along the way which make it worthwhile?

I'm trying to find out what type of plug adaptor I will need for Sri Lanka. I've looked on the internet but have seen conflicting information. Some say Sri Lanka uses the same as England,(i know the voltage is the same) some say it's the same as the old style English plug and some say it's the same as they use in India. Does anyone know?

Hello, we are coming to Sigiriya around 22. July. Do you think we need to book accomodation in advance or can we count on some available rooms when we show up? Is there some accomodation where we can book via internet or at least arrange booking by email? I haven't found anything yet. We are looking for a budget accomodation and didn't find any hostels in Sigiriya. If there's anything in Dambulla of that kind it's fine with us, too.

I have read reviews of the bigger hotels (e.g. Royal Lotus, Rest house, Sudu Araliya) but they are not very good - the hotels sound tired and the service is bad. I would therefore like to find a nice guesthouse with nice rooms and hot water. Could anyone recommend one? Many thanks, Caroline

Hi. My boyfriend & I are planning to stay in Sigiriya for a few days & wanted to then make our way down to Arugam Bay. Does anyone have any advice on the best route to get there? I was thinking of going through & sopping overnight in Batticaloa but haven't seen much on this part of Sri Lanka & if it's safe traveling through there?

How long would it take for a privately hired car for the trip from Sigiriya to Colombo? I am planning on leaving Kandy by hired car, catching sunset in Sigiriya and staying one night, visiting the rock area for the morning/afternoon, and then trying to get back to Colombo by that evening.
