Will oct 20 to 26 be ok?
It has been a long time, since my last trip here. I would like to spend the bulk of my visit in the downtown area. Prices seem to have skyrocketed, so I am looking for value, customer service, fresh seafood.
Failing this, my plan B is a reasonably priced hotel on the city bus line.
I will be searching restaurants with traditional food, like clam fritters, shrimp burgers, spots and croakers, grits, ribs, Eastern Carolina slaw, hot breakfast sausage, iced tea sweetened while it's hot, corn bread, banana pudding, etc.
I am appreciative of any advice that you may offer.
Hello, everyone:
I've never been to Asheville, NC before, but I'll be visiting most likely from late May to early June (two weeks). I read that the climate in the mountains can change from one hour to the next. Coming from the Florida Keys, I'm not used to cooler weather. Should I pack mostly long sleeved shirts, sweaters and jeans? I have a jacket or two, but not much in terms of layer clothing. Does it get hot as well during this time? I don't want to be too hot either. I plan on doing some hikes.
Thank you for any information you can provide.
Carolyn
I am going to a wedding in Avon..in the outer banks but will be arriving a couple of days later than the other guests. I am looking into flying into new burn and taking a shuttle/ferry/any transportation to Avon. Is there anything like this that is affordable? Any advice is appreciated. Tanks.

Hi! I am road tripping to Tennessee yet again, I take 81S the whole way and usually drive straight through about 16hrs from Connecticut. I am looking to take it a little easier this time and have always dreamed of traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am looking to spend a day on the parkway and stop somewhere along the way to spend the night. Does anyone have any suggestions as to my most efficient route? Suggestions to my start and end points? I am open to switching between the parkway and 81S. What are some sections of the parkway that I should not miss? I want to make some stops along the way to enjoy the scenery. I think I'm definitely interested in stopping to visit Mabry Mill. I am quite the nature enthusiast and explorer. I am also open to the option of driving through the N. Carolina section of the parkway to Gatlinburg as I am familiar with the area and could travel west into Tennessee that way. Also any suggestions where to stay overnight? I will be traveling the first week of April. Thank you so much for any feedback!
What are the best small towns in eastern NC to retire to?
We are leaving a tour near California and would like to find a good resort type hotel for a little bit of luxury after our tour can anyone recommend or should we go down to San Diego. Thank you
where should it be. I have never been to AsheVegas. Looking forward to it, even though its only 36 hours. Staying downtown, so have a preference to eat there, but West Asheville on the way out is not out of the question. For downtown joints EarlyGirl and TupeloHoney get all the press and I suppose rightly so. Also heard about a place "Overeasy" too? Many say head straight for SunnyPoint in west asheville. So I am flummoxed. Normally I try to steer clear of places that are primarily frequented by tourists as I would guess EG and TH are...but maybe thats not a fair guess. And if somethings good.....its good. Anyone familiar that can compare and contrast? Would be a Tuesday AM by the way. cheers
i live in frisco, and my wife has a dr.appointment next week in elisabeth city, how are we going to get off the island if the bridge is down?.
How is the weather in the smokey mountains during the first week in November. I would like to have a beautiful, scenic drive with the WOW factor of the first time viewing of the smokey mountains.
How far is fair oaks from Freemont? also from San Jose? Are there efficient public transportation between these places? Are there any reasonable motels to stay in at Fair Oaks near the Rudolf Steiner college there? Any information would be appreciated.
Good morning, We (family of 5) are planning a road trip from San Francisco to San Diego in March 2013. We are looking to rent RV for that trip and spend 8 days... Our children are used to road trip and we are good at maximising the time... What do you suggest? Thank you!
Hi all, I'm going to be at the convention center for a few days, but can't handle the prices of the hotels nearby. I won't have a car, so could you recommend a neighborhood outside of the pricey area where I can find a reasonable ($55-85)hotel and either a bus, shuttle, or cheap taxi ride in and out of downtown each day? I was originally thinking of the University area, but that looks maybe a bit far away. But I've never been to Charlotte, so I'm relying on the experts. Thanks so much for your help! Liz
There are a few buildings on Banks at 34.89837,-76.256777. Can anyone please tell me anything at all about them: what are they? How do you get there? Is there any interesting reason to go there? Etc. Thanks
Hi! I'm going to Wilmington next week with my sister, mainly because we are fans of One Tree Hill and wanted to see some of the locations that has been used. Neither of us has a drivers license, but we would like to go over and see battleship North Carolina, as I understand it is across the river from downtown, but how do you get over there if you don't have a car? And does anyone know if it is possible to hire bikes in wilmington, i can't seem to find anything on the internet, other than a shop out near the beach? Most of the things we want to see from the show is within walking distance, but one of the houses is pretty far out (2314 tattersalls drive), and it is one that we would really like to see, do you have any ideas of how to get there from downtown :) ? And ideas and tips about wilmington in general will be greately appricated, thanks!
My daughter is going to visit friends in Avon and doesn't want to make them drive to the airport to get her. What public transport is available? Thanks
i've heard horror stories about being surrounded by water and as far as the bridges i was wondering how does it compare to the chesapeak bay bridge? there's no way i would ever go on the cheasapeak one and i'm just very scared i'm gonna get out there and panick! was really wanting to plan a trip to outer banks in july so any input would be helpful!

My child will be celebrating a 13th birthday in Boone. We're coming up just for the evening to celebrate. It will be a Friday night midsummer. Any ideas for a fun & interesting celebration? Dinner? Picnic?
Hi, can you tell me are there any buses that travel to Kill Devil Hills and what cities do they come from (are there any buses that arrive from Norfolk for example) thanks! :)
Hi there :) I'm going on a holiday with my sister this summer and i was thinking of doing something different and not so touristy(from a Dane's point of view) for the first part. I was thinking of having a week in Wilmington and Charleston, i have already checked that you can get flights from Denmark to Wilmington, though it is with a few stopovers, but how is it to get from the airport to accomodation, and around in generel if you don't have a car, would it be easy just to walk around? I was thinking of taking the greyhound from Wilmington to Charleston to get in some scenery in stead of flying, how are the greyhounds in the US i did a lot of travel on them when i traveled in Australia and didn't have any trouble with them at all but have read a few places on line that they are more dodgy in the US? And then would it even be possible for two girls do do anything these places without a car and just by walking around. Any help or tips would be appreciated :) Lillian
There is a bus from Knoxville (TN) to Asheville (NC) all saturday morning from 8 am?
Hello - we're considering a trip in September to revisit the Appalachians and ending up in GSMNP - we'd probably be there around the 3rd or 4th week of September. Are we likely to see any fall colours that early in the year? What sort of weather should we expect? Is the area prone to rainstorms/high winds at this time of year (we'd be in a little tent!) or is it still quite summery? Many thanks, Karen
Hello, Can anyone give me suggestions and options to get from New York to Nags Head with driving NOT an option. I believe you can fly to an airport somewhere relatively nearby ? What about a coach and is the train an option ? Thanks.
Are there any really special places to eat (not necessarily fancy, just good cooking) in Salisbury, NC?
My family and I will be in Asheville in mid-March. The "average" weather temps are showing between 40 and 60 degrees. That's quite a range! Can anyone tell me what the weather is actually like in mid-March? Also, any ideas on things to do if it's too cold to be outside? We already have the Biltmore on the agenda, but not sure what else there is to do. Are there any cool towns nearby worth a visit? As an FYI: we can't do anything too strenuous as we'll have my 70 year old father with us. Thanking you in advance!!
When is the best time to watch the leaves turn in the Asheville area. We will be there on October 3, 2011 and hope it is not too early. Thank you
Hello, My husband and I are planning a getaway from our kids for 4-5 days in mid-October. We have never been to OBX and are thinking of going there. We like to shop (unique shops, not national chains), bike, and eat. Where in the OBX would you recommend? We are thinking that it will also give us a chance to investigate whether it is a good place for a family vacation next summer. We were leaning toward Duck or Nags Head. Thanks.
