Hi :), I'm an american citizen and looking into the possibility of moving to Hawaii. Last year I lived in the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific though I'm originally from California. I'm age 21 and have I.T, hospitality, and care-giver experiance in addition to volunteer work and high school diploma. Can someone with information please tell me if there are less expensive places in Hawaii to reside than Hololulu? I'm been looking at Honolulu's city stats for over a week and it seems it's one of the most expensive cities in the world. Is there more affordable housing? What about Pearl City or some of the smaller communities on Oahu or the other islands? How easy or difficult is it to find work this time of year? I'm interested in anything entry level. Any other advice for attempting to reside in Hawaii? Cheers, Shaun applesbliss@hotmail.com
Hi Shaun: Try writing direct to Patty (hexepatty) from VT, she lives in Honolulu, but is in the process of moving to Florida so may not see you notice. She should be able to help you some, she is good people. Martin

Aloha! Because you're trying to move to a high cost area, you may be disappointed the first year you're here. There are cheaper places to live on the islands, but be forewarned there may be a commute! You didn't mention what prices were quoted to you, so what I might think is reasonable, may not be so with you. My advice would be to locate a few realtors online, and talk directly as far as what$ you are looking for. I know of a good one called Cornerstone Properties in Aiea. My friend found a reasonably priced apt in Honolulu, but she had her job before her apt. For the work aspects of your question, well, this changes daily. Again, check with some actual agencies to see what is offered, and what the outlook is for what you're looking for. While this time of the year is difficult anywhere securing a "non seasonal" job, it's not impossible. The Hawaii State employment agency is a great help in getting someone set up for job hunting. Do your homework thoroughly before embarking on a move to the islands . . . good luck on your ventures.
