I am doing a photo trip for Northern Lights Mar 5-10 /13 and am trying to figure out a packing list. Temps on line show around freezing, but not sure what wind, rain/snow and dark of night might be like. I'm from Canada so have lots of heavy winter gear, but my question is how much will I need. Heavy winter boots, or hiking boots and warm socks? Wind/rain overpants and long underwear, or insulated snowmobile type pants? Tips from anyone who has been there in March would be helpful, or especially anyone who has done a Northern lights photo trip?
I plan to visit Hemnesberget in August 2013. My ansestory is from Laukhella. Can I visit there? I assume Laukhella is privat property. Also, my ansestory is buried near there. How could I go about locating their graves?
Hi I was planning to catch the Hurtiguten from Bodo to Harstad in May 2013, arriving in Harstad at 06.45. I then planned to travel by bus to Narvik, via the airport, to catch the Stockholm train. I have just found out that the train has been rescheduled from the afternoon to 11.38 in the morning. The only buses I can find from Harstad miss this train by about 15 mins. Is there any other way of getting from Harstad to Narvik?
Would anyone know the bus numbers (I think it's 5 and 14), frequency and fare from Bodo harbour to the airport. I can't make sense of 177nordland.no. There is a Rimi supermarket across from the Radisson in which we can get supplies. We are on the 19:05 flight to Narvik, which doesnt get in till 19:45, then on the 09:35 train out in the morning. I think the Narvik supermarket by the station doesnt open till 09:00, and everything is shut by 20:00. so we should get supplies in Bodo. If you have any typical Norewgian picnic food suggestions, or other nice food stores in Bodo to recommend (preferably in the station to harbour area), I'd be very grateful. Takk
Hi, does anyone know if we can drive to the moose safari around bodoe? Im only staying 3 nights in bodoe, what is the best way to catch the best way to catch the aurora? Thanks in advance for your help..
Is there a place in Gravdal where I can rent a car for the day of June 27?
We arrive on the Hurtigruten and leave from the airport. Any suggestions for how we arrange a rental car? Is there any public transportation between boat terminal and air terminal?
Hi! We arrive in Bodo by plane on July 17 at 9:55. I see there is a ferry to Moskenes at 11:15. Is that enough time to catch this ferry? What is the fastest way to get there? Thank you very much!!! :)
Hello Everyone! I’m planning to make a trip to Lofoten this june and I have a few questions which I need help on. First of all, I’m planning to head over to Lofton by taking a ferry from bodo. I’ll be trying get around by bus, bikes or just walking. (I won’t be renting a car since I don’t have a driver’s license.) 1. Is Reine accessible and a good place to stay? Or would it be better to stay in other villages like Henningsvaer or Å? 2. Due to a budget constraint, I would prefer to rent a room in a guesthouse or an apartment rather than a Rorbuer. Are there any other similar accommodations in Reine like this? --> lofoten-info.no/hotellet/eng... 3. Am I able to go for fishing trips like this --> datadesign.ws/x-Hellvaag/Eng... in Reine?
Hi to all, we plan to go to Narvik, originating in Abisko,Sweden in spring 2013,most probably in late Feb./March:) Can anyone help how to connect with the Hurtigruten ships from there? We like to cruise finally to Bodo, with the Hurtigruten ships, where we continue to travel further on to Oslo, with the plane;) We do appreciate your help, thanks!! Happy journeys to all, Gt62;))
What would a native of Narvik, or Norway in general, put in a picnic basket ?. We arrive late in Narvik on the bus from Fauske, and then leave on the train in the morning, so I am hoping to locate a supermarket in Narvik who I can pay to deliver some food for us to the campsite, which looks like the grooviest place to spend a summer night (they have chalets).
Hi, I am organising this http://gcerc.wordpress.com/route/. We plan to get the evening bus from Fauske up to Narvik and stay at the camp site chalets. There will probably be about 15 +/- 5 people in the group. I am concerned that if the numbers are nearer 20 we might not all fit on this bus as we arent even getting on at the start point, and this isnt a part of the world where hanging onto the roof is generally approved of ;). Does anyone know if 1) reservations can be made on the bus or 2) somewhere in Bodo or Fauske we can hire a small bus or several people carriers.
Hi! My friends and I are planning to travel from Svolvaer to Harstad/Narvik airport by bus but I can't seem to find information about it. Can anybody give us more information about how we should do it please? And the cost, bus service name etc. Thanks so much in advance! :))
Is it possible to travel by boat down coast of Norway commencing near Narvik (only because we are currently in Lulea and can easily get to Narvik via train)for a few days? Would love to see fiiords but haven't got a lot of time. Or would we be better accessing the coast further south and catching a boat there? We have eurail passes for train travel.
On our last trip to Norway, we did not have a car while we visited the Lofoten Islands. This limited our movement. We stayed outside Svolvaer and had to take a taxi to our hotel and then were lucky that our hotel had bicycles to borrow so we could go out and eat our meals. So on an upcoming trip to the islands (August this year), we want to get a car. Where is the best place to rent a car? Can we rent one in Svolvaer (we'd prefer to use that as our gateway to the islands, taking the express boat from Bodo). Or we may fly to Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes. Can we get a car there? A third option is what visitnorway.com says: "If you drive, you can take the car ferry from Bodø across to Moskenes, Værøy or Røst. Or you can drive further north of Bodø, to Skutvik, and take the car ferry across to Skrova or Svolvær." What's recommended - what's the best place to get a car to get around the islands?
In July I am on a cruise that tenders in to Gravdal until mid afternoon. I'd like to visit Nusfjord and Sund. Can this be done or do I have to use the ships cruise? Is there any local transport or other sights that could be visited in 4/6 hours Thank you for your help Keith
Hi, I'll have a free day in Svolvaer on Monday, March 7 (I've been there before) and am thinking of either taking the ferry to Skrova, going to Kabelvag (I've been to Henningsvaer), or taking the bus to Fiskebol. Any suggestions or comments on which would be best? Thanks very much. Cathy
Hi there! I´ll be in Bodø in the first week of March 2011, coming from the Lofoten Islands and i need to travel to Bergen. Does anyone knows the cheapest and/or the fastest way to make the trip? Thanks.
Hi there! Me and my friends are planning a trip to Norway in the first week of March of 2011. We´ll be standing for 2 days in Tromso and then we want to go to the Lofoten Islands. We were thinking of going to the southern of Lofoten, to Reine or Ä, and stay in a Rorbuer for 2 nights. From there we are expecting to take a ferry to Bodo. So, can anyone help me to pick the fastest way from Tromso to Reine or Ä? And in wich village do we stay? Reine or Ä? Or, does anyone have another suggestion? Thanks.
Hi, I'm trying to decide whether to take the northbound or the southbound Hurtigruten trip in February or March. The northbound trio seems to have a 3 hour stopover in Bodo. What does the city have to offer, at least to passengers from the ship who have to walk from the quay? Thanks very much for your help. Cathy
Hi , Wouls be appreciated if some experts could advise whether there's any left-luggage centre at Moskenes ? We will be arriving Moskenes port at 5.00 early morning in March'2011 , thinking of dropping our luggage at the centre & do a detour to A & Reine & back to Moskenes to pick up our luggage ,then going by bus to Stamsund ( stay 2 nights ) . We have 3 full days in Lofoten , can we head to the Northern part like Svolvaer & Henningsvaer & back to Stamsund within the 2nd day ? Our 3rd day will be touring the Central part like Stamsund & Leknes , we then leave for Bodo from Stamsund late at night ( arriving Bodo during Midnight ) Thank you very very much ....
Hi , Would be appreciated if someone could help get us the email contact for Stamsund hostel at Lofoten ( we are Malaysian ) Thanks

I am planning to stay in Lofoten Island for 2 days, do u think it's enough? Most probably i would go to A or Henningsvaer. I have allready taken part in this forum and it has been very useful. I'm travelling from Spain to Lofoten in the end of October. Does anybody know which is the nearest international airport to Lofoten islands?. And after arriving the best and possibly cheapest way to get to Lofoten. Once there, the best city or village to conssider it as a base camp to visit the rest of the islands? Thanks again to everyone
Hi everybody, my name is Roberto from Spain and I'm planning to go to the Lofoten islands in the end of October. I have thousands of questions to ask, and I don't know where to start. It's my dream to sea the northern lights, and I have been trying to plan this trip for some years now, but I never got up to it. First of all, is it the right time of the year to see the northern lights? If it is, I need loads of information about places to stay (very low budget), the best and cheapest way to get to Lofoten. What transport combinations are best from Spain ... I'm sorry I have too many questions. I have been looking a lot of websites, most of them very good, and got lots of info, but as I don't know exactly how to do it I feel really lost. If you can help me I will thank you ever so much.
I will apreciate to receive the timetable winter for ferry carying car from Moskenes to Bodo for Sunday . Thanks Silviu
I will apreciate to receive the timetable winter for ferry carying car from Stamsund to Bodo for saturday . Thanks Silviu
I'm asking this on behalf of friends who are campervanning around Europe and are in Bodø at the moment. They keep seeing 'little yellow balls on short rods along the roadside. They are about the size of a ping pong ball and the rod is about 6 inches (around 15cm) tall. They are irregular distances apart, positioned sometimes low down in the grass, sometimes high up on rocks, sometimes near the edge of a road and sometimes a couple of metres away.' They would love to know what they are for and would be grateful for an explanation, if you have one. And so would I. :-) Thanks in advance.
We are traveling to Lofoten Islands in August and trying to decide if we should stay at Ørsvågvær AS or Sandvika Camping. We are 2 adults and 2 kids (12,8). Looks like both locations have a beach for the kids to play on and rent boats. Does anyone have knowledge of these 2 campgrounds to give us some advice?
