How Does the Cost of Living in Denmark Compare with Copenhagen?

      Denmark Mar 30, 2014 at 2:14 AM

Hi. In Britain, the cost of living in London and the south-east can be very high, but in other parts of the UK life can be much cheaper. Is life in the rest of Denmark much cheaper than in Copenhagen? Or is life fairly costly everywhere?

I've stayed in Copenhagen and spent quite a lot of money, but I was a tourist in a capital city. Is life much cheaper in Denmark's other cities? Or does life become more expensive the further away from big populations you are?

I've heard that house prices are high in Copenhagen, but are they high throughout Denmark?

I'm considering moving to Denmark and I want to live somewhere well-equipped but affordable. Does such a place exist? Or is the cost of living only low in unpleasant, post-industrial towns?

And is public transport cheaper outside Zealand or are prices similar everywhere?

Many thanks for your help. I'm a very ignorant man.

Gribskov: Getting There and Where to Go?

      Copenhagen Apr 13, 2014 at 1:51 AM

I'll be visiting Copenhagen again soon and this time I don't want it to be a boring city break, I want to get out into the countryside properly. I especially want to spend one or two days in Gribskov, but I need to know the answers to a few questions first. Maybe someone can help?

      (1) Like most visitors to Copenhagen, I'm very confused by the tickets on public transport. I know that I need to travel by train to Hillerod and then transfer to the Gribskovbanen to get to stations like Mårum and Duemose, but I can't understand which ticket I should buy if I want to travel there and back on the same day from Copenhagen. Could a Copenhagen resident please explain?

      (2) Is there a good-quality map available, showing all the tracks and trails through the forest, at a scale of something like 1:50,000?

      (3) The forest is owned by the State - but does that mean that walkers can go everywhere?

      (4) Where are the best parts of the forest, in terms of thick foresty vegetation? Obviously I'm relying on the railway, so I don't want to stray too far from it, but I'm guessing there are plenty of wilder, bushier parts within reach of the stations.

      (5) I've read that in recent years, spruce trees have been being chopped down, to create a woodland more like Gribskov would have been in the past. Personally I like spruce trees, having walked a lot in Norway. Are there still any substantial areas of spruce or is Gribskov now just open woodland, like heathland with a scattering of trees? I've been looking at the forest on Google Earth, but it's hard to tell which type of trees are which. Also I don't know how up-to-date the satellite view is.

If anyone can help me, that'd be great. Thank you.

    • Luggage storage

      Ålborg Feb 23, 2014 at 2:25 AM

On the web i found out that there is possibility to hire box for luggage storage in main train station in Alborg. I would like to know for how long can be hired this box (i need to store my luggage for about 1 week), how big are this boxes and what are the approximately prices? Can be such box reserved in advance or there is always plenty of boxes and there is not likely to run out of them?

Is there any other posibility to store your lagguage in Alborg? I plan to make a cycling trip with bycicle for about 1 week and the Allborg will be start and end point. Due to this fact i need to store major part of my luggae during this period.

      Ålborg Sep 2, 2013 at 11:51 AM

I've recently started trying to find out more about Aalborg. My great grandmother was born there in the 1880's and I'd like to find out more about her family, the Rasmussens. I know in the early 1900's the Rasmussens lived on Lille Nygade. So I'm also interested in any information about Lille Nygade.

      Skagen Mar 25, 2012 at 1:29 PM

      Hello everyone,

My partner and I are currently in Stockholm and have just booked accommodation in Skagen. There seem to be a number of train/bus/ferry/combinations that we can take in order to get there, and I was wondering if anyone knew of the best way? By best, I mean the cheapest and quickest, but mostly cheapest. I have found perhaps the best way to be a train from Stockholm to Goteburg, a ferry to FredrIkshavn, then a bus or train to Skagen. Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

    • Getting from Goteborg, Sweden, to Skagen, Denmark

      Skagen Sep 18, 2010 at 9:59 AM

Hi! We will be based near Copenhagen and, for the week that we will be there, we can choose to either drive to Goteborg to see some friends or drive to Skagen which I was told is an awesome sight to behold. Is there any way that, when we are in Goteborg, to take a ferry across the channel to (quickly) get to Skagen and back to Goteborg within a day? I just want to see the two seas crashing together. Thank you for your insight.

(I'd prefer not to in case myflight is delayed.)Any advice gratefully accepted, Thanks

      Bus in Aalborg

      Ålborg Jan 11, 2007 at 1:32 AM

Next month I´ll go to Aalborg to spend one month at the university (Department of Life Sciences). As I see in the map that my accomodation (Teknisk skoles kollegium, Øster Uttrupvej) is far away from my campus of the university (Sohngaardsholmsvej), and I guess I won't have a bike, I think I'll have to use the bus from one place to the other. I'd be grateful if you could tell me which is the most adequate bus line that I could take.

      Ålborg Sep 1, 2006 at 5:43 AM

I am after any ideas on how to best get from Ålborg to Helsinki, Finland?
I haven't been able to find any direct flights, but any form of travel that is reasonably quick and easy (ie. don't need to change transportation 10 times on the way) would do. How would this journey be with a car? Is it doable?
Please help me with this dilemma.....Many thanks!

      Skagen Apr 4, 2005 at 9:35 PM

hi, my friend and i want to spend about 5 days at skagen, but the only hostel we could find info about costs around 500kroner (100dollars, about) per night! Which is crazy. So, if anyone could tell me anything about reasonably priced accomodations in skagen, that would be wonderful. (ie, we are poor students)
