Day trip: Nimes - Montpellier - Aigues Mortes - Nimes

Hi, I am going to be staying in Nimes this September and I'm planning a day trip that goes from Nimes to Montpellier to Aigues Mortes and then back to Nimes. Can you please advise me the best/cheapest way to do this trip. My plan was to take the train to Montpellier, then a bus to Aigues Mortes, and then a train back to Nimes. Is there a return train ticket I can buy that is cost effective, or will I have to buy a single ticket from Nimes to Montpellier, and then a single ticket from Aigues Mortes to Nimes?
