My family will be spending 3 days in the Nice area in July. We are interested in seeing the lavender farms. I would like suggestions on a starting point or direction we should go in. We plan to rent a car. Thank you for any information.
I'd say your best bet, including scenery, elevations, etc would be Grasse, about a 1.5 hours drive northwest.

a car is best way to travel, and good advice on Grasse for the perfums. However if want to see the fields of lavander need to go by car here Dieulefit and Valréas, all near the road autoroute A6, the region of Die,near the Alps east of Gap, and the region of the Gorges du Verdon,as well as the surroundings of Dignes les Bains. take a good map, and mark route with www.viamichelin.com, see if can find more info here in Destinations above on these names or google for it.
