Crossing Rainbow Bridge, day trip

by clmbsb Online Now Aug 5, 2010 at 2:16 AM

Hi there I have made my arrangements and will be visiting Niagara in September. I wish to cross Rainbow Bridge (Canada to USA) and would like to know the current cost (travelling by foot). I have a UK passport and when I last visited in 2005 I had to fill in a green card and pay around7 to gain entry in to the USA. Is the system still the same? Has the cost increased? I only plan to visit for around 90 minutes, not an overnight stay. Many thanks

I have to strongly discourage you from coming to the US side of the falls if you're already in Canada. The view, park and town are much, much better on the Canadian side, and people usually operate the other way around (park on the US side and walk over to the Canadian side) for that reason. You shouldn't need a visa to enter the US being a UK citizen, unless you have some sort of criminal record. You just have to pay a toll on the bridge then go through customs on the US side. london.usembassy.gov/vwp3.ht...

If you've already been to the state park on the American side for your last visit, then don't bother going again. I passed by it just a few days ago and despite the improvement in tourist facilities in recent years, the Canadian side is still much better, as previously mentioned.

Bear in mind that if it is your first entry (on this visit) to the US you can expect the usual Homeland Security grilling and you may have to produce some sort of evidence thagt you are indeed returning to Canada later that day.

The toll for walking across the Rainbow Bridge is.50. To enter the U.S., you will be required to obtain an I-94W Visa Waiver form at the border. It requires that you fill in a questionaire, be fingerprinted and have your picture taken. The cost is6.00. When you leave the U.S., you must relinquish the form (to Canadian Customs). Whether or not all that is worth it for 90 minutes is up to you.
