Will I regret July 4th trip????

by komodo13 Online Now Mar 11, 2007 at 1:59 PM

Hello! I am currently planning a trip for the week of July 4th, 2007. Will that be a mistake due to over crowding? We are a family of 4, including 2 kids. We are not renting a car because we have been warned that parking is a nightmare. Without a car, I am needing to know the most inexpensive way to get from Buffalo airport to the Niagara Falls area? Also, one option for a hotel is the Holiday Inn by the Falls on the Canadian side - any comments on this hotel? Is it close to attractions considering we will have to walk everywhere??

Thanks!

4TH. OF JULY IN NIAGARA FALLS IS THE BUSIEST TIME OF THE YEAR. IF YOU COULD COME A WEEK EARLIER YOU WOULD FIND BETTER RATES EVERYWHERE AND LESS TRAFFIC... I'VE WORKED IN THE N.F. TRAVEL INDUSTRY FOR 30 YEARS.. ITS JAMMED HERE OVER THE 4TH. OF JULY.. JULY 1ST. IS CANADA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY... ITS A DOUBLE HOLIDAY. YOU'LL PAY A PREMIUM FOR YOUR ROOM AND HAVE HUGE CROWDS AND LINES AT ATTRACTIONS TO DEAL WITH. HOLIDAY INN AT THE FALLS IS A VERY NICE HOTEL. HOWEVER, THERE ARE NO HOTELS CLOSE TO EVERYTHING AT NIAGARA FALLS SO YOU WILL DEFINITELY WALK A VERY LONG WAY TO SEE JUST THE NIAGARA PARK SECTION BETWEEN THE RAINBOW BRIDGE AND TABLE ROCK* (*CANADIAN SIDE OF HORSESHOE FALLS). YOU'LL BE TOLD THE HOTEL IS ONLY A BLOCK FROM THE FALLS, ETC.. IN FACT, MOST OF THE HOTELS WILL TELL YOU THAT ONE.. FIND A PANORAMIC VIEW OF THE FALLS ON LINE.. FIND THE SKYLON TOWER IN THE PHOTO, AND SEE HOW FAR IT IS FROM THE FALLS.. NOTICE THAT THE HOTELS ARE ALL LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE ESCARPMENT RIDGE, ON THE CANADIAN SIDE OF THE FALLS.. HOW DO YOU GET DOWN THE RIDGE? ANSWER.. WITHOUT A CAR, YOU WALK DOWN MURRAY HILL.. ITS A LONG WALK DOWN AND THEN ITS ALL UP HILL BACK... NOT SO BAD IF THAT'S ALL YOU DO.. BUT NOT SO GOOD IF YOU WALK THROUGH THE PARK FROM THE FALLS TO CLIFTON HILL. IF YOU WALK, YOU WILL FIND THE WHOLE DAY IS GONE IN NO TIME. THERE IS OVER 28 MILES OF SITES TO SEE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RIVER.. A CAR IS A GOOD IDEA.. THE TRAFFIC IS NOT SO BAD ONCE YOU GET AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE PARK AREA NEAR THE FALLS. IF YOU PLAN TO COME AROUND THE 4TH. OF JULY.. SHOP FOR BEST DEALS AT SEVERAL HOTELS.. CONSIDER TAKING A SIGHTSEEING TOUR.. YOU'LL PAY FOR THE SERVICE BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT.. ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A CAR FOR PERSONAL USE. REGARDING GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT TO YOUR HOTEL.. ITS EXPENSIVE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE BEING TRANSPORTED ACROSS THE BORDER. ASK THE HOTEL WHAT THEY RECOMMEND. THERE ARE SOME SHUTTLES... CAR RENTALS WILL ALSO BE EXPENSIVE OVER JULY 4TH.. HOWEVER, A TAXI COSTS ABOUT50 FROM BUF. AIRPORT TO AN AMERICAN SIDE HOTEL.. IT IS PROBABLY15-$25 MORE FOR THE SAME TAXI TO TAKE YOU ACROSS THE BORDER TO A HOTEL ON THE CANADIAN SIDE... ONE WAY. SO, IF YOU RENT AN ECONOMY CAR @35/DAY.. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE THE USE OF A CAR WHILE YOU ARE HERE.. YOU WILL NOT EASILY DRIVE THE CAR IN THE PARK.. TRAFFIC WILL BE OUT OF THIS WORLD.. IT GETS WORSE EVERY YEAR AND PARKING IS15 -25 PER LOT ON THE CANADIAN SIDE. YOU CAN PURCHASE A PARK & RIDE PASS IN THE NIAGARA PARKS.. AROUND43/ADULTS.. CHILDREN UNDER 13 YRS PAY AROUND28. UNDER 5 YRS ARE FREE. ITS A GOOD DEAL BUT THE SHUTTLES WILL BE LOADED AT EVERY STOP OVER JULY 4TH. WEEKEND. IF YOU PLAN CAREFULLY, YOU CAN STILL HAVE A GREAT TIME AND SEE AND DO EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO.. BUT YOU WOULD FIND IT EASIER IF YOU COULD VISIT A FEW DAYS EARLIER THAN THE JULY 4TH. WEEKEND.. OR THE NEXT WEEKEND AFTER THE 4TH... IT WILL BE VERY BUSY ALL THROUGH JULY.. BUT NOTHING LIKE THE 4TH. OF JULY WEEKEND. HOPE THIS IS SOME HELP.. THERE IS SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO HERE. YOU NEED A WHOLE DAY JUST TO SEE NIAGARA ON THE LAKE.. THE BIG ATTRACTIONS WILL REQUIRE 1-3 HOURS WAITING TIME.. MAID OF THE MIST, JOURNEY BEHIND THE FALLS, CAVE OF THE WINDS.. THEN THERE IS SO MUCH TO SEE ALONG BOTH SIDES OF THE RIVER.. GREAT GORGE ADVENTURE, DEVIL'S HOLE, NIAGARA NATURE TRAILS (US SIDE HAS WALK DOWN TO AMERICAN SIDE OF THE RAPIDS... TAKES ABOUT 3-4 HRS.. LOTS OF STEPS. ITS NOT FOR EVERYONE. IF YOU ARE ONLY STAYING HERE FOR A DAY OR TWO AND YOU DO STAY IN A HOTEL OR MOTEL LOCATED WITHIN 1.0 MILE OF THE NIAGARA PARK, YOU SHOULD HAVE PLENTY TO DO FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. BUT IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE BEST OF NIAGARA FALLS, EITHER YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE A PROFESSIONAL GUIDED TOUR OR HAVE THE USE OF A CAR. EVEN WITH THE CAR, YOU WILL HAVE TO REALLY KNOW HOW TO GET AROUND THIS PLACE IN ORDER TO CONQUER THE CROWDS OVER THE 4TH. OF JULY WEEKEND. IF YOU DRIVE, NEVER DRIVE INTO THE PARK FROM THE SOUTH.. GO AROUND THE BACK WAY.. ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF STANLEY AVE., LEFT ON MARINELAND PKWY.. THEN FOLLOW IT DOWN THE HILL TO CHIPPEWA, TURN LEFT AND THEN TAKE THE NIAGARA PARKWAY NORTH INTO THE PARK.. ITS A LOT EASIER TO DRIVE THROUGH THE PARK FROM SOUTH TO NORTH THAN FROM NORTH TO SOUTH.. YOU'LL DRIVE RIGHT BY THE HORSESHOE FALLS ON YOUR LEFT.. BUT IF YOU WANT TO STOP AND GET OUT OF THE CAR, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY TO PARK.. ABOUT20.00 AT THE TABLE ROCK PARKING LOT... IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE CANADIAN FALLS CLOSE UP.. FIND A PLACE TO PARK ON THE TOP OF HILL.. AROUND THE MINOLTA TOWER.. PROBABLY COST YOU5-$8... THEN TAKE THE INCLINE RAILWAY NEXT TO THE MINOLTA TOWER.. DOWN THE HILL (CLIFF). THE INCLINE COSTS ABOUT1.00 PER ADULT... INCLINE GOES FROM TOP OF THE ESCARPMENT RIDGE TO THE BASE OF SAME..ACROSS THE ROAD FROM TABLE ROCK AND THE CANADIAN FALLS. YOU'LL SAVE PLENTY OF MONEY AND TIME BY PARKING AND USING THE INCLINE. HOPE THIS HELPS. BEST WISHES.
