Hi! We are planning on going to Nha Trang for 1 week, potentially longer if the internet in this area is reliable. We need to access the net 24/7 in order to work & we are hoping to do this in a beach town. I was wondering if anyone knows if there are regular power outages or brown outs in this area. We are planning on staying at the Novotel Nha Trang, which says that you have access to the internet in all the rooms...can anyone confirm this? Also does anyone have any feedback on this hotel? Any recommendations on other hotels around50-$75 USD? If we are looking to rent for 1-2 months is it better to arrange this once we're there? Any words of advice are greatly appreciated!!!
I think power failures will be a non-issue in Nha Trang. It's a pretty big city and I didn't see any problems. Internet access is good by southeast Asian standards, at least in the cafes. Some of them actually had quite good connection, allowing me to upload pictures. Some of them were good enough to surf the net, but uploading pics was out of the question. Either way, with the possible exceptions of Hanoi and HCM City, I don't think you're going to find a better Internet connection in Vietnam.

I had no problems this time last year.

It's pretty good in Nha Trang and the Novotel has full generator back up so you should have no problem.

I have been living in Nha trang for almost 3 years.I have a house here. From time to time the city's power is shut down...about once every two months but just for a few hours. In my business I use the net a lot. Basically it is very inferior. All foreigners who live here complain about it. It crashes often and is very slow. The Vietnamese system is antiquated. The main Post Office at the northern end of Pasteur St has very good clean, quiet facilities.Novatel is in a good location.Compared to the local economy restaurant prices at the hotel are expensive. There are many excellent places to eat within 10 minutes walking distance. If you stay at a boutique hotel for 1-2 months you could get a great room for20 per night.I have a friend who is staying at a small boutique hotel for6 per night with large clean rooms, huge bathroom. Now Nha Trang is very competitive and they will do deals. There are literally dozens of new boutique hotels open. Saigon Yasaka is 4 star opposite beach and within your price range. Novatel is new but overpriced. Travel tip. you can easily buy Lonely Planet Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China books and Phrasebooks for about US3 (yes three dollars-if you bargain even less eg 40,000 Vietnam Dong) in District one in Saigon and all other tourist centres.Just walk along the street I the tourist strips…if you don’t stumble over their sidewalk stalls they will be chasing you with boxes of books for sale anyway!

Hoang Dang Hotel is very classy and about 9 months old. They used to have HUGE deluxe rooms for50. Maybe now, that Nha Trang tourism is flatter than a pancake, you can negotiate. That hotel is only 3 mins from beach-just one block back from Novatel. Personally I think Novatel is grossly overated....very sterile, not warm and welcoming.Novatel as a building is just a big white box. Hoang Dang has a bit of modern Vietnam style.

Veitnam internet is reliabled and fast enough for business needs unlike Laos. Nha Trang some times gets Power problems though has been fine the last few months. When there are power problems it is in different areas. My street can loose power but 2 streets away it is fine. There are loads of hotels of all standards. Suggest you get here and book in. Then look around. There is always building work going on so best to check them out first. All big hotels have internet access and a lot of small have internet access. There are loads of places you can go for food etc and use WIFI. No problems to get on the web. enjoy
