      8 nights in California

      California May 1, 2013 at 4:18 PM

I am flying into San Francisco in July and spending 3 nights there. I will then rent a car and head somewhere north for 2 nights (Russian River area?) to do some hiking and kayaking. I will end the holiday with 3 nights in Carmel. I was wondering what town/city I could stay in to be close to hiking and kayaking locations. Russian River and Armstrong woods seem like good areas to explore but I don't know what town to stay in.
      Thanks for any suggestions.

    • From Long Beach to Dodgers Stadium

Los Angeles May 7, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Staying at a Long Beach hotel for a convention but will be going to a Saturday evening Dodgers game. We will have a rental car so...

      - Should we drive the car up to the stadium and get general parking?
      - Or should we drive up to Union Station/Patsaouras Transit, park there and catch the Dodgers Express Bus into the stadium?
-'Or should we totally leave the car at the hotel and take the Metro Blue Line/transfer to the Red Line into Union Station/Patsaouras (to catch the Dodgers Express)?

Ease and not sitting in traffic make the Metro & Dodgers Express Bus sound good but I've been told the trip would take approx. 2 1/2 hours each way. That seems like a long time but would driving ourselves take just as long because of the traffic? Your advice would be appreciated!

4 hour layover with 18 month old

San Diego May 15, 2013 at 5:11 PM

We will be landing in San Diego at 9am and then our flight home doesn't leave until 1pm. Is there anything we could do with an 18 month old (zoo? sea world? other?) during that length of layover. We would have to be back at the airport by noon, so not a ton of time really, but a bit too long to be hanging out at an airport with a bored toddler. We obviously won't rent a car, so would need to take some form of public transit. Sorry, if my question is ridiculous or unrealistic! Our trip is actually to Arizona, but we're flying home via San Diego and just realized the length of the layover, so we've done zero research on this city. Hoping you fine folks can help steer us in some kind of direction - even if it's recommending we stay put. Thanks!

      Parking in San Fran

San Francisco May 8, 2013 at 5:02 PM

Can anyone confirm if there are any public parking places where I can park my car for 3 days while in San Francisco?
I have got an amazing rate on the Galleria Hotel, Union Square but they have said that parking is valet only and at a cost of $45.00per day - kind of undoes the great rate they offered.

I'm driving to San Fran and then need it after San Fran for Yosemite and the airport run and could do without returning and rehiring for 3 days!

Things to do around Newport Beach

by llauraa Online Now Mar 29, 2013 at 5:20 PM

A g/friend and I are considering a renting a beach house around Newport Beach for a week and a bit. I have visited before and always wanted to go back and stay longer. I loved both Newport and Balboa Island /peninsula - however as we were only there for a day back in 2010 - Im not sure which area would have the most 'going on' in regards to nightlife?
      Interested in:
      -casual cafes and restaurants
      -live music venues
      - nice cocktail lounges OR pubs/taverns to relax & meet locals in
      - any other suggestions would be appreciated - any food experiences we 'must try' ?
      - are thereany wine-tasting options nearby? how far out would need to travel to throw that in
-Transit services - best way to get back up the highway to LA/malibu without having to hire a car - if possible

ps what are peoples views on Huntington Beach - does that area have nice potential as a vacation spot? Seems to be a bit more residential ? but I am only going by maps and real estate guides etc
      Thanks all

    • Dinner?

by stewartfan Online Now Oct 17, 2011 at 11:28 PM

Hello, a friend and I are travelling down to the Huntington Beach area and are planning on visiting CSU Fullerton. We'll be eating lunch on the way, but we want to find somewhere unique for dinner. Nothing too expensive, nor fancy, nor time consuming. We just want to go somewhere that has great food, with atmosphere being a plus! Preferably a place that's not a huge chain. This should be somewhere in the vicinity of Fullerton/Costa Mesa, but if it's worth it, we're willing to go out of our way. Thanks in advance!

      Balboa Boat Parade parking question

by londonlover Online Now Nov 2, 2008 at 7:53 PM

I'm hoping to attend the 2008 Balboa Christmas Boat Parade, but I've heard that parking on the island is impossible during that time because of the crowds. Does anyone know whether it would be feasible to park in the ferry parking lot in Newport Beach, or is that likely to be full as well? (I would be planning to cross over to the island around 4 PM for the 6:30 parade start time.) Thanks!
