I was thinking of flying from Newcastle back to Melbourne in April. But now I find Newcastle Airport is in Port Stephens. I can't find out the best way to get to the airport from the centre of the city. Is there a designated shuttle bus? There are buses on the airport website but there seem very infrequent. They do say it takes 25 minutes to drive there.
Has anyone got any helpful info before I throw my hat over the windmill and book a flight.?
I've read some really positive stuff about Newcastle and would love to start a new life there with my 9 and 8 year old sons. Their dad died a couple if years back and we want to move to a brighter climate as we love the outdoors. We currently live in Dublin, Ireland and the winters are dreary! Any advice on good family oriented areas to initially rent with a view to buying greatly appreciated. Any advice from anyone else who has kids in schools in Newcastle ar Rea

Hello we re coming over from Ireland on a weekend to see the Sunderland Villa match on the 15th Dec. We want to keep all the group together. By eating and drinking at the same spot we feel that this can be achieved. The average age is 18. What do you recommend? We were never in Newcastle. Plus we are staying in Jurys Inn right in the heart of the night life. Looking forward to hearing from someone.

Hallo everyone! I am a greek doctor who has recently been offered contracts for specialisation training in Brussels, Belgium and Newcastle, NSW. This is one hell of a dilemma, as I suppose that we are talking about two completely different things.. I have visited Brussels (it's only a 3-hours flight from home) but won't have the chance to visit Newcastle. So... What could you Novocastrians say to persuade me come there? By the way, I will be moving with my partner, who is into management-hr-shipping. Would there be any relevant jobs there or should she look for something in Sydney? Oh and much of my training will be in hospitals throughout the Hunter valley. That would something completely different than just living in Brussels, so I'm worried about how rural hospitals work there and whether that could be an interesting (and not dramatic!) experience.. Thanks in advance

Is there any indoor beach volleyball during winter season? Many thanks

I currently live in Melbourne and have decided I need a change from the BIG city. Ive heard Newcastle is quite a nice place to go. I really just want a few more opinions. Im a single 28 year old female so really Im looking for a good night life and good people. Is the nightlife any good? What is the price of houses to share if you live a bit out of the city CBD? Is it a friendly city? I appreciate any feedback Mel
I just got admitted to the University of Newcastle, commencing on February 2007, and I was wondering if i could get some information about the City itself. I have never been to Australia and i just wanna get as much information before i make my decision if I should take the offer or not. What is the city like?.. and is there lots of things to do during free time?? If i do decide to go.. I'll be living there for two years and just the thought of me going to a place where I've never been to..or for that matter.. a place where i dont know anyone is a bit overwhelming. Any advice will be surely appreciated!!! =)

Hello! Our family are moving out to the Newcastle area in January. My husband is going to be working in Newcastle, and we are not sure whether to live actually in Newcastle or to live in the surrounding areas - Port Stephens, Tea Gardens Central Coast and Lake Macquarie all look nice!We are happy for the commute to be about an hour by car. We have 2 children aged 5 and 8 and so good primary schools are a major priority for us, and possibly high schools too. We live in a very rural area in England and so we would need to be able to find a nice grassy part of Newcastle if we were to stay in town if possibe!!! Any ideas? Any schools or areas to avoid? Any fantastic schools? Any advice....please!! I have visited Newcastle but that was 17 years ago - before being a parent!
is there anything to do in port macquarrie...i will be there for 4 days at the end of this month...are there any good irish bars?

How long does it take to drive down to Sydney? Will the weather cause any hindrance to the drive? Your valuable information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'll be in Newcastle for a week and then I'll be travelling to Sydney. I'm planning to travel to Sydney on the train. Is it possible to place my luggage in the train? Is there any compartment to place luggage or do I have to have it with me all the time?
Hi there Me and the family (1 wife, 4 year daughter) are seriously looking to emigrate to Oz this year and think Newcastle would be a great location to settle and bring up our daughter and enjoy the far better climate than we get in Scotland. Can anyone give me pointers as a good place to stay, ideally near the beach and easily commutable to King Street in the centre of town. Thanks in advance Paul

Hi, I am arriving in Newcastle by train (Broadmeadow) and have several hours to get to the airport. I would like some suggestions on the best way to get from one to the other (probably with a wander around somewhere to grab some lunch) without resorting to a taxi. I have absolutley no idea about Newcastle geography.
G'day all Newcastlers - I just wonder if anyone knows a Swedish family around Newcastle. I know of someone there who is a bit desperate to let her young children speak Swedish to other children and she hasn't found anyone around there on typical Swedish expat sites...
