Just curious

How did Chapman road get it's name? that happens to be my last lame and I'll be working on chapman road very soon.

    In the UK it is one of those "occupational" names derived- obviously - from an occupation. In this case it was associated with a peripatetic or itinerant salesman, and may be linked to the German Kaufmann.
    On the other hand it could be linked to rural/agricultural clothing and stem from the makers of "chaps" but I have yet to find that explanation - though it is the one I like best!

    When used as a road name (there are lots of Chapman Roads in the UK, and I'm sure it's the same in the US) it is most often named after someone who was important in the town at the time the road was built (mayor, politician, businessperson, rich person, sportsperson, doctor, vicar etc etc etc). Same with lots of other road names.
