What is the road like from Greymouth to Kaikoura and is it feasible to do it in a day?
Trip is just under 200 miles and should take you just under 4 hours without stops. That's an average speed of about 50 miles per hour.

The road is fine. New Zealand often has terrain preventing direct routes. So often you need to zig zag to get to your destination. But the good side of that is you get to explore more. I would stop in Hanmer Springs for a break (of course there are many other places you will have stopped as well). The Waiau > Kaikoura road is good, a little windy, but interesting way to go. (Hwy 70).
