Which New York hotel would you recommend for being close to the major attractions. Looking at no more than £700 for five nights in September. Thank you
We stayed in Algoquin Hotel http://www.algonquinhotel.com/ And it was great experiance, is like staying in Dorchester in London.. I found great offer for this hotel on www.travelzoo.com

A great bargain hotel - near the theaters, Times Square and just about everything.... The Time Hotel.

Thank you all. I have been looking around Times square, thinking it would be fairly central for the main attractions. Close to Broadway, Central park just North and Empire State Building and Ground Zero just South.

The Paramount - Times Square: "Great location" - New York State Hotel Tip by Dymphna1 This is my review on the Paramount. It is a block form Time Square. I got a good price on the room, but that is not always the case, depending upon the time of year. Be sure to ask for an outer room. The inner ones look into a really ugly area.

Hotels are super expensive in September -- the weather is usually gorgeous, and big events like Fashion Week and the UN General Assembly drive up demand. If it's at all possible for you to come a couple of weeks earlier, you'll find it's a lot less expensive. That said, unfortunately your budget is very low even for low season. You might look at hotels in Long Island City, which is a neighborhood in Queens, just across the river from midtown Manhattan. The Country Inn and Suites is very popular because it's convenient to the subway. The Verve is also well reviewed. Don't worry about being near attractions. The popular destinations aren't even near each other. Everything is quite spread out. You're fine as long as you're near a subway station. The subways are safe and reliable, and they run 24 hours. All you need is a 7-day unlimited ride metrocard. It will cost30 and will cover all your subway and bus fares. Even for a five-night stay, it's one of the best bargains around.

we recently stayed at Ameritania hotel. Right in downtown, walking distance to Times Square and many broadway theaters. Its about230 per night. Decent room. Pretty good value considering NYC is very expensive. Google the hotel for more infos. It has above average reviews. Trawl some hotel booking websites such as hotels.com. booking.com, expedia, etc., U can sometimes get discount since u are staying for 5 nights.
