Hi.I am considering driving to NYC from Northeast Vermont for the first time but I am concerned with driving into the big city. When I look around at alternative cities around NYC (Newark NJ and other NJ areas) they also seem difficult to drive to.Any suggestions or alternative routes, areas? Flying is not a consideation..too costly.
there are multiple parking lots in white plains new york right off the cross westchester expressway easily accessed from the New England thruway or I684. Suggest googling white plains parking and then calling to make sure the lots can be used 24 hours. you can also park at the north white plains or white plains train stations but do be careful not to park in a reserved spot for pass holders or your car will not be there when you return.

Hi, I drived there last year from airport to hotel, I rented a GPS, a GPS is great useful when you are on the road. I find my destination at last without waste much time.

If you are going to be in NYC then you don't need a car anyway. Why not take the train? You can drive to whatever the closest Amtrak station (St. Albans, Essex Junction, Waterbury, Montpelier?) and hop on the train from there.

Amtrak will take you right into the heart of the city. From there take the subway - it is great and far less expensive than driving. Driving there is extremely costly.

be careful with the train from essex junction - it used to, admittedly some years ago, get to new york via boston.

There are two trains that go through Vermont--the Ethan Allen Express and the Vermonter. Neither one goes through Boston, but the Vermonter does go through Springfield. Schedules are here: amtrak.com/ccurl/399/64/Verm...
