Hi. I would like to get some tips for great restaurants in NY, if anyone can help me! I'm traveling there with my boyfriend in the end of September. We are in our late 20's and we're staying for 8 days. I'm really interessted in food; french and italien in particular, and I'm really looking forvard to new experiences. Have been to NY a couple of times before, but then on student budget, so this time will be a bitt different. What are the best gourmet restaurants in the city? I would like to go out one evening and don't really think about the bill, just have the best food there is. But since we're quite young, i would like to go to a place with younger crowd and not really that stiff atmosphere. Any suggestions? I would also one night go to a more low key, but trendy place. Where do the "young and famous" go these days...where i coud get a reservation? And for a sunday brunch? What's the best place to go? And for italien pizza? Thanks a lot in advance.
Your best advice will be found (other than from people on VT) at www.chowhound.com (Manhattan section). You'll get more ideas than you will ever need! The people there are very knowledgeable and very helpful with the NYC scene. I moved away from NY quite awhile ago, so my favorites may be out of date now. Balthazar in SoHo is a great brunch place as is Sarabeth's Kitchen.

It's not a trendy place, but John's Pizzeria on Bleeker Street serves the best Pizza I ever tasted in New York! The resturant is always busy (a sign of good food to me!), they do not accept any payment on cards - so cash it is, and they do not sell pizza by the slice. Everything on the menu is between14.50 to25 depending on how many toppings you choose for your pizza. John's also offers Calazone, pastas and sides. We had an excellent experience here! And when I return to New York, I will be visiting John's Pizzeria! Address: 278 Bleecker Street between 6th & 7th Avenues. Website: www.johnsbrickovenpizza.com On here, you can find the menu and directions.
