JKF Airtrain not running after 9pm until 11 May

by samtin Online Now Apr 26, 2012 at 6:28 AM

Following an earlier post in this forum and advice received (thank you all), I have decided to use the Airtrain and E line sub from Jamica to get into midtown on my arrival. I have now found out that the Airtrain is only running between Federal Circle and Jamaica after 9pm at night and as my flight arrives at 8.25 pm I may be travelling on after 9pm. Question: has anyone experienced this and can they advise how much of a delay the substitute bus service is causing in getting from the terminals (in my case Terminal 4) to Federal Circle? Many thanks, Sam

without average traffic it takes no more than 5-7 minutes to drive from 4 to federal circle ( never really timed it, obviously, just 3 or 4 miles ). you will probably spend more time waiting for the bus to fill ( ahd hopefully not stop at any other terminals on the way ) than to actually make the trip.

You could also consider the direct New York Airport Service bus to Grand Central Terminal. Cost is15 one way. Take a look at http://www.nyairportservice.com/ for details.

WELL, IF YOUR IN A RUSH TO GET TO MIDTOWN - MANHATTAN, YES, YOU CAN TAKE THE BUS WHICH DROPS YOU RIGHT ON 42ND STREET WHICH IS CALLED GRAND CENTRAL STATION. THE COST OF ONE WAY FROM JFK TO GRAND CENTRAL STATION IS15.00. THEN IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO SPARE AND WANT TO SAVE FEW BUCKS, LIKE10.00, THEN YOU CAN TAKE THE AIR TRAIN AND HOPEFULLY YOUR LUGGAGE IS'NT TOO HEAVY, AS WHEN YOU GET TO SUPHIN BLVD. YOU WILL NEED TO DRAG YOUR LUGGAGES / LUGGAGE INTO THE METRO "E" TRAIN WHICH TAKES YOU DIRECTLY TO MIDTOWN (EXACTLY WHERE IN MIDTOWN IT WOULD BE THE EAST SIDE. NOW IF YOU WISH TO GO WEST MIDTOWN THEN YOU WILL NEED TO EITHER GET OFF ON LEXINGTON AVENUE OR 51 STREET. AND SHIFT TO A CROSSTOWN BUS TO GET TO THE WEST SIDE. LET'S JUST SIMPLIFY IT'S EAST SIDE MIDTOWN, FROM 51ST STREET AND LEXINGTON YOU CAN GET OFF (WHICH IS THE CITICORP BLDG. NOW IF YOU WISH TO SAVE A BIT MORE MONEY. YOU CAN EASILY SPEND ONLY2.25 (BE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH COINS FOR THE BUS) GO TO TERMINAL 4. TAKE THE Q3 AND TELL THE DRIVER YOU WISH TO TAKE THE F TRAIN AS YOU NEED TO GET TO MIDTOWN. TELL THE BUS DRIVER IF IT IS THE EAST OR THE WEST SIDE, AS THE F TRAIN FIRST STOPS ON 66TH EAST SIDE THEN IT WOULD SHIFT TO 59 STREET AND COLUMBUS AVENUE WHICH IS THE WEST SIDE....(A HANDY TIP: ONCE YOU HAVE SETTLED IN AT YOUR ACCOMMODATION, BEST TO PURCHASE A WEEK METRO TICKET, AS IT IS THE UNLIMITED BUS/AND METRO OR SUBWAY...HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY AND SAFE HOLIDAY IN THE BIG APPLE. I HOPE I WAS ABLE TO HELP AND WELCOME TO THE BIG APPLE.

the e train enters manhattan on the east side, yes, and then proceeds crosstown and goes south on eighth avenue on the west side. so one train suffices for the midtown area on the east and the midtown and downtown areas on the west. bus transfer not necessary. poster should download a copy of the subway system. just google new york subway map, get a choice of brightly colored cartoons.
