I just realized that I have a super short time to change planes in JFK and will need to transfer between terminals 9 and 4. Added to that is the fact that I will also have to check-out and check-in my luggage all over again (pitfalls of booking your own airfare :). Question is, is it faster to get a taxi or get a bus to transfer between terminals (at around 4:30 p.m. and having a luggage to haul)? Also, if the taxi is faster, what is a cost? Any other suggestions? Thank you very much for any info.
I don't remember - it's been "a while"- what it costs but I would say take a taxi because it won't stop at every terminal between 9 and 4 if you don't have much time. The cost won't be too bad. Also, do you have a lot of luggage? Could you take only hand luggage with you? Some canvas bag that will fit into the overhead compartment? I just did something like that a couple of days ago when I knew I would have very little time to catch a connecting flight in Sweden. I didn't have to wait for my luggage and I rushed straight from the plane with my 2 bags to the check-in for the second flight. If you use a low-cost airline like Ryanair, they won't let you check in your luggage for more than one leg. It depends on the person behind the counter whether you are allowed to take everything as hand luggage. I never asked and it was fine for the first leg but for the second I had to check in my stuff. Luckily, there was enough time... Happy travels!

HI, The taxi is not a bad option...you may also want to go to the following websites for additional information regarding JFK: panynj.gov/aviation/jaroundf... or panynj.gov/aviation/jitcfram.... Sincerely, Spartan

The buses that go from terminal to terminal run fairly often but can be a real hassle if you have a lot of luggage. I think there are lines for the cabs.. but that might be your fastest option if the line isn't long. To be honest, I'm not sure a cab would even take you to another terminal.. it's an interesting thought.

if you are transfering from one airline to another because the first airline does not fly to the stop after new york. look for a window that says something like passengers arriving from outside usa recheck luggage to domestic destinnations. one was just to the side of and pass customs. when i came back from austria on austrian airlines and was conecting to american. there was several airline employees at the counter from american, austrian and some other airlines. be carefull and do not pass it up and end up in the main lobby area of the place or you will have to go thought security to get back to the counter. if you take the bus it will take between 30 min and 50 min by bus to get from 9 to 4 . depending on how long you have to wait for the bus and how many people get on and off at each stop.
