I'm thinking of buying a City Pass for my 5 days in NYC, but I definitely want to go to the top observation deck, and the City Pass only gets you to the 86th floor. Can I buy an addition to my ticket while there to get me to the top? This will probably decide whether I buy the pass at all, as I don't want to miss a 100+ story view!
It seems that your can upgrade to 103 floor. Link: newyorkpass.neoturismo.com/p...

You can buy a ticket on the 86th floor to get to the top. Cost was about $18 when we did this in 2008. Be aware the top deck is enclosed in clear plastic that's pretty thoroughly covered with scratchiti, while you can actually go outside on the 86th floor observation deck.

What travelfrosch says. Don't bother with the 102nd floor. And whatever you do, DO NOT let them scam you into buying their lame "Sky Ride." It's awful. You sit on a platform that shakes a bit while you watch a movie.

Re; Empire State building 102nd floor?
We went there in 2009. The view from the 86th floor was better than the view from the 102nd floor as at the 86th you can walk all around the deck outside. We were sorry we paid the extra. Also, be prepared for LONG queues,( like hours) as you move up and through the building. Take some water. The view from the 86th is magic and worth it all.
