    Hi

we enjoyed staying at Hotel Metro, which is in the shadow of Empire State Building. Great location and excellent hotel. Have a look at my review :

we stayed at Ameritania Hotel. It is a decent hotel and it is good, especially the price at about ~$240 per night. Great location with theaters just round the corner. Above our expectations as NYC is an expensive city. But if your gauge of $300 is considered 'good' then prolly this might not be it. Btw, have u not asked similar question before? Why not check hotel consolidators such as hotels.com, booking.com, expedia, etc., u will find tons of reviews there from people who have actually stayed in hotels.

Hotel Edison or Hilton Garden Inn are both just steps off Time Square and reasonable. Edison would be my first choice only because of the history and background.

Washington Square Hotel. Near a subway stop. Easy walk to jazz joints in the Village. If you want a quiet room ask for one that does not have a view of Washington Square.
