by ibenavente Online Now Jan 25, 2013 at 6:17 AM

I am about to rent a house in New Orleans for a short stay in Fairgrounds area. Could anybody give me information about this neighborhood?

Thank you in advance

I don't know exactly where you're staying, but Bayou St. John near the Fairgrounds is considered an upscale area where the homes are quite expensive for New Orleans.

At Christmas our family stayed in Mid-City close to City Park, which is not that far away from the Fairgrounds. It was a nice middle-class residential neighborhood. During the day, we went walking in City Park.

It definitely depends on which side of Fair Grounds you're talking about. As mentioned, the area to the south is Bayou St. John, which is a very nice, old, beautiful area. To the north and east are mostly middle-class and poorer areas, as you get into the Seventh Ward and Saint Bernard.
