by vmarjorie Online Now May 30, 2006 at 3:22 AM

hey folks !
is it walkable from the New Haven train station to Yale campus ? shall i take a bus ? I'm worried because I read a whole lot of awful things about the station area : am i really putting myself at risk if I come from NY after 8 or 9 PM ? thanks a lot

Take a taxi. Many years ago, a classmate walked to the station in a group of 3 and were "attacked" by a group of 9 boys. Things may have changed but I will still take a cab.

At that time of night I would take the bus or a taxi at least to Chapel Street. If you are talking the main campus, it is a long walk... It is just the first few blocks that are dicey. Once you get to Chapel you should be OK. If you decide to walk it I would stay on State Street till you get to Chapel as it is always fairly busy and well travelled by police and cabs.
