Delhi in my opinion deserves at least 4 days to explore. I have been 6 times to Delhi, and have still not 'seen it all' Its a fascinating city. Agra is a one day thing. I was not enamoured of Mumbai- just a huge polluted city. There are a few nice spots (eg Colaba area) but its not my favourite city. A pity that you are not visiting anywhere in Rajasthan, which is THE most colourful and historically state in India. Its magnificent, with diverse scenery, culture and great food. Ranthambore National Park is worth a visit. If you would like to read more- I have written extensivly on India, after many visits. Click on my name, and my homepage will appear. There are many links for India (including Mumbai, Delhi and Rajasthan) Have a read. Train travel is easy and cheap in India. They go just about everywhere. You can book online, or purchase tickets at main railway stations. There are booths for foreigners, with special quotas. I have never had problems booking on the day. Can't advise re Goa- not my scene there.

I would like to suggest 2 days for Agra as you need some time for the Taj, the Red fort and a day trip to Fatephur Sikri, a magnificent fortified city 40 kms from Agra where you will see some beautiful buildings in the extensive old city.

I totally agree with Hilron......Agra is NOT an great city.......very polluted, chaotic and filled with aggresive touts. We did Agra AND Fatehpur Sikri in one day- no problems. We did have a car & driver- but the Agra trip can be done by taking EARLY 6am Shatabdi Express from Delhi- see Taj & Red Fort, by lunchtime thats over- get a taxi to Fatehpur Sikri (30mins) and back to Agra in time to get a latish train back to Delhi.

1 day for Agra is sufficient, visit TAJ & fathepur Sikri. Just a suggestion you can cut 1-2 day from Mumbai & visit Jaipur. Its really royal & amazing. Take standard 1 day city tour in Delhi then you can have glimpse of Delhi. After that you can hire a taxi to visit places in delhi or make Metro card & roam around it is very convinient. You can go to Bandhavgarh either by train or flight. Nearest airport is Jabalpur & station is Umaria. You can take an overnight train and save your time. In India travel by train is cheaper but please book tickets asap.

In my view you can increase the number of days in Delhi and reduce in Mumbai. Delhi has much more to see in terms of culture and heritage. Its a beautiful city and excellent nightlife as per what I have seen. I travelled through a company and I still have the number of the person who handled my tour. You can call him if you need help with the bookings. Sujeet - +919891290277 based in New Delhi and they specialise in customised tours so you will get very good advice. Frank

@AnjaliS: You are brand new member of VT. The PURPOSE of VT is to help other travellers- which is WHY members make pages about destinations- with tips, photos and lots of help . These members spend hours making the tips - and they are good. I suggest that you read a few. You might be surprised at how much information is offered. We also help with info on the travel forums. So why Google outside websites for help? If you want to read about any destination- put in name of destination to the 'search' box (top right of page) and click GO. Then you will see the helpful pages.

I had a really short time in India too, 2 weeks. I had been there before and found it a bit stressful organising train tickets and buses when I wasnt there for a long time. This time we hired our own driver and it made for a fabulous trip. If its something you would consider Id really recommend our driver Lucky or his company. He helped us so much with understanding Indian culture and just organising everything. Anyway their website is http://www.drivers-india.com/, worth a look. Enjoy your trip, its an amazing country.
