Hi, I will be traveling Nepal with my wife and 3-year-old daughter from June 11 - 18, 2012. I plan to go fKathmundu to Pokhara on June14. I am looking for a traveling partner, preferably a small family, to share cost for hiring a car
Most of the private cars for hire in Nepal are the compact variety so with 2 adults, your daughter and all the luggage they will be quite full. Costs for a good car with an experienced driver are about100 each way, so not so expensive, especially if you compare that with a flight of around100 per ticket !! If you want a recommendation for someone that I have used several times in the past to arrange hire cars then take a look at my Nepal A Very Important Decision I Hope that helps but if you need more info then drop me a line Happy Travels Rob

actually a car will be ok for you in my view, you can get around a car around140-150 dollar for Kathmandu to Pokhara and staying 2 nights in Pokhara with air conditioned, and if you take a flight its cost around120/person now and child can get little discount and if you are Indian, then its cost more cheap, please don't hesitate to reply and be in touch and if any more question please feel free to contact ...

“Actually” the above poster has quoted you some Hefty prices so I can only assume that he ahs added his Enormous commission on top of what he has posted “Actually” the current Buddha Air flight price from KTM to Pokhara is100 – This can easily be confirmed on Buddha Air’s website at http://www.buddhaair.com/farelist/ “Actually” the current price of a good quality private car with experienced driver from KTM to Pokhara is100 Regardless of nationality So my advice is to be very careful who you both take information from as well as who you choose to organise your transportation. Good Luck and Happy Travels Rob

actually now the price has been increased its the cost for roundtrip not one way, kathmandu to pokhara is around70 for 1 way and if both way then around130 per person and about the car rental the cost includes 2 night stay in pokhara and back to kathmandu, and if only pokhara drop from kathmandu its cost is95 to 100 it depends upon the situation. other airlines are a bit cheaper than Buddha air.

“Actually” I have only just returned from Nepal and the prices I have quoted are correct – This can be easily confirmed by both checking the website link that I posted and emailing the agent that I have used for 18 years and 9 trips to Nepal. I see that you only just joined Virtual Tourist today – This site is designed for travellers to exchange information and not for Nepali businessmen to try to gain business, especially if it looks as though they are being less than honest when going about it !!!! Take Care Rob

Thanks for your kind words masum11 - Yes I suppose that I Am Passionate about Nepal , But I also hate to see people being ripped off or fed bad information. I aren’t 100% Sure what KumarNeo was up to (Although I have my suspicions), Even his amended quoted price for a private car were outrageous as the70 One Way and140 return were Per Person where as the price I mentioned of100 each way was for the car – So He was Certainly on a Huge mark Up compared to the agent that I always deal with. Internet Travel Forums are great places to get advice from regular travellers to given destinations, but unfortunately they also attract a fair proportion of “Sharks” who prey on unsuspecting travellers so you have to be very careful who you take “Advice” from. One thing always to check on is that if a VT Member hasn’t taken the trouble to build a homepage then any advice offered should be considered with scepticism, as the site member is probably expecting to have their account deleted so haven’t “Wasted” any time in building a home-page unnecessarily The Moderators on VT are very good at deleting a lot of such posts / replies and even monitor site email to ensure that members aren’t spamming other members through the site email system – In fact they do an Excellent job, particularly if you compare VT with sites like Trip Advisor where there are far more “Sharks” posting on the travel boards than there are genuine travellers. Good Luck with your trip and if I can be of any further help then please don’t hesitate to either contact me or post again. Best Regards Rob

Hi Rob, Thanks for your advice and the reference about Nirmal. I had an 8 day trip in Nepal and came back yesterday. I contacted Mr Nirmal and told him about you. He arranged for all our transport and accomodation, with quite reasonable cost. He is a nice person and I felt very comfortable communicating with him. Thank you once again. //Samiul

No Problem Samiul – Pleased to be of help. Perhaps you would be good enough to post the prices you actually paid and then future travellers to Nepal will have an up-to-date idea of the current going rate. This will help future travellers as well as putting of the “Sharks” that sometimes post on these forums from quoting extra high prices Thanks and Best Regards Rob
