Hi! Appreciate some on the ground input i.e. based on personal knowledge/experience (not reference to a weather website) as to what weather in Nepal/Kathmandu might be like during the last week of May/early June: how cold, wet/rainy it might be? Thanks! :-) FYI I'm a little concerned by news report of flooding a couple of days ago, with tourists being killed, which suggests to me it's very wet there now? And how it would be by the end of May/early June? Any ideas/information would be much appreciated! :-)
well, i have been to Nepal several times and the rainy season can start in May/June, but of course who can tell what the weather is like from season to season. Last year we were in Laos and the rainy season started towards the end of April, same in our part of the Philippines. It prevented us from trekking in Laos. As for the temperature, just have a jumper or jacket for Kathmandu for the evening, but during the day it will be warm.

Hello, Normally Your travel time is Begin of Monsoon But will not that much heavy rain. Also true few weeks before in western part of Nepal Near by Pokhara they got Problem from Heavy Flood and Few People Still Missing and 21 if Dies. In This time i suggest to you do Kaligandaki Vallley Trek or Just Visit Kathmandu and Pokhara Chitwan Sites Will Be Much Batter and Safely no Doubt. Bashu

Good info already posted and I agree – Late Mat, Early June you will encounter a fair amount of rain – But it won’t rain all of the time, nor will it rain as much in some paces as it will in others. If you are considering a trek then I agree with the above poster, consider a trek like the Annapurna Circuit as the best section of this is in the Himalayan Rain Shadow and this are gets very little rain even in the middle of the monsoon as it is to the north of the main Himalayan chain and 90% of the rain falls on the southern slopes (Neither EBC, Langtang or ABC treks are in the Himalayan Rain Shadow) Places like Tilicho Lake (Possible side extension of AC from Manang) are Best visited at this time of year – Google Images of Tilicho Lake. Ok you will get a bit wet on your first few days trekking but once above Pasang the weather will improve, then you have three choices on the Kali Gandaki side from Jomsom, - Fly, Jeep or get wet again and trek. Alternatively if your budget is bigger then Upper Mustang is another Excellent choice for this time of year. For a shorter alternate you could fly to Jomsom and Trek the Kagbeni (same day as you fly in) – Jharkot (2 nights here and visit Muktinath on the day between) Jomsom triangle, then make your way down to Tatopani by a combination of bus / Jeep / Trek and then trek out over Poon Hill. Another couple of pointers are it will be a but dryer and a bit cooler in Kathmandu compared to Chitwan and Pokhara I Hope that helps a little Good Luck Rob

Thanks @thinair! But I'm more a 'discovery traveller' than a trekker! ;) Not fit enuf for that! :( So, what's the best time for Nepal discovery travel then? When is it cool but dry? Thanks.

March is my own favourite month – But December, January and February are also great possibilities – Cold at nights and at altitude, but usually warm, clear and sunny days + the additional benefit of no crowds and therefore often cheaper hotel prices ;-) Good Luck and Happy safe Travels Rob
