frequency of bus service from penang airport to georgetown komtar and vice versa

We will be there 5 days and 4 nights. Tips on places to see and eat will be greatly appreciated.

Is it neccessary to have some Dollars with me (or are Euro as good) to change at the arrival in Malaysia or ist it ok just to get the money (RM) from the cash machines?

I will travel to penang (after visiting Langkawi for 5 days) in March and I am wondering how many days I should stay there. As I heard, penang got a very beautyful old citycenter but the beaches are not famous. What else can I see there? Are 1,5 days enough? And what is the best way to travel there? With the ferry or by bus? How long takes the ferry and about what costs are we talking about (bus and/or ferry)? Thanks a lot for your advices!!!

Hi VT'ers Heading over to Penang later this year for 2-3weeks and was wondering if anyone can recommend a tailor that specializes in leather, i'm looking to maybe get a jacket each for myself and the good wife and maybe a skirt or dress for the wife as well. Iknow in Bali there are tailors that only do leather and was hoping for the same in Penang. We're regular visitors having been 1/2 dozen times over the last few years and have had the mandatory suits and dresses made by traditional tailor but I don't recall seeing a leather specialist. Also someone mentioned to me a jeweller on or near Chulia St that custom makes jewelry, the name Max comes to mind. Got a milestone anniverary coming up and thought i'd get something made(happy wife=happy life). cheers

Hi VT'rs, I'm headed to Penang this July 2013 w/ my family (2 kids aged 7 and 3.75 at that point). Although I'm a seasoned traveler (VN, Cambodia, Turkey, Tanzania, China, Burma, UK, Venice, Thailand, etc.), I've never been to Malaysia. While I do go to the "tourist" sights when warranted (if it's of cultural/historical/geological/etc. value - in contrast to tourist traps/junk like Pier 39 - BTW, I was born & raised in SF and think P39 is ridiculous in its current state - can't figure out why so many tourists go there!), I generally like to have as much of the local experience as possible (markets/restaurants/etc. frequented by locals). That being said, any specific recommendations for 10 days in Penang w/ the family? We'll be staying with a local resident there, but wanted to get others' perspectives on what they consider the highlights (top interesting sights & experiences, specific foods we MUST try, etc.). We love great food, nature and I'm very much into travel photography. thanks, all!

Hi, I've just moved to Butterworth and have been finding my away around slowly, but am struggling to locate a few shops/services. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find any of these things: -an art store (want to buy some blank, stretched canvas') -a plant nursery -a bookstore (somewhere where I can buy a B Malaysia/English dictionary.) -a Bahasa Malaysia teacher Also, we are looking for a cleaner to clean our apartment - just for an hour or so a week. Any recommendations? Should we go to an agency to find a cleaner? And, lastly, if anyone would like to meet up, let me know! I'm an English teacher, in my late 30's. thanks! Maria

Hi all, My husband and I are going to langkawi in mid July. Due to the late flight to penang, we are going to stay overnite in the airport as wanna to save money on the subcharge of the transportation in taxi in penang. I would have the following qns : Is there any free wifi in the airport? I would like to know the currency exchange rate of 1USD to how much malaysia money in the airport? and the currency exchange rate of HKD to how much malaysia money in the airport? We would spend 3D2N in langkawi and one nite in penang after back from langkawi.We already paid the hotel fee in both langkawi and penang. Now we are calculating the expense on the trip. We will need to pay around 150 RM on the car rental in langkawi. So how much money we need to pay in the trip? We are going to Penang (batu ferringhi) end of Jan 2012 and we have heard that you can travel by train from Butterworth to Singapore by train. Can anyone tell us anything about it? for example how much it costs, how often the trains run etc. Many thanks
