I last went to Naxos 5 years ago, and am returning next week for my honeymoon! When I was there before, a quad bike was the best way to get around. Is this still the case, or have the cars taken over?
My husband and I are traveling to Naxos in less than 2 weeks and we are concerned about the financial situation. we are worried the protests could affect the airport/bus/ ferry transfers. does anyone have any input on our concerns. i am sure once we are on the island, staying with family we will be fine. thanks
Hello, My husband and I are taking our two teen daughters (14 & 16) to Athens, Santorini and Naxos this summer and are looking for suggestions of what we should do. We are an active family (albeit with sometimes lazy teenagers. Below is the basics of what we might do but any advice is welcome! On Naxos, we are staying for 5 days and nights just South of the main town (within walking distance) on the beach at St George. we are hoping to visit beaches and cute little villages and maybe windsurf. Thanks everyone. jennifer
hi, are there usually daily ferries from naxos to santorini in mid-may? thanks, mik
with a mandate not to do anything too tiring, what would you do? Thanks crewrower
Which is the cheapest car hire place in Naxos? I need the smallest car I can get in July for 2 weeks and so far the cheapest rate that I was offered was 25 Euros per day. Any lower prices anywhere? On other islands we got a rate of 18 Euros per day, that's what I am looking for, no hidden extras.
Does anyone know if the Naxos Star is still offering a ferry service this year on a Friday from Mykonos to Paros and Naxos? In previous years I have flown to Mykonos airport and transferred to Naxos using the Naxos Star ( as they also used to ferry Kosmar passengers on a Friday around 4pm), but I don't know if they are still offering such a service this year. Alternatively if someone knows how to get in touch with them, it would be helpful. Thanks Sheila Drummond
Hi everyone, Is there a ferry from naxos /to mykonos?? i couldnt find it on bluestar.is it advisable to book online now? we are traveling on may25th,2009.also need advice on ferry from mykonos to athens and from santorini to naxos.Thanks.
My husband and I are trying to get our trip to Naxos nailed down for the last week of May or first of June. We have been to other islands the last of April and first of May and absolutely did not need hotel reservations then. With the extra month and warmer weather do you suggest we book ahead? Also will the water temp be warm enough to go in the ocean at this time? Thanks for any imput.
we have narrowed down our hotel choice for naxos to these two beachfront hotels for may 24 and 25th.please share your experience and opinions regarding these hotels.we are a family of four with adult daughter and son in their late twenties.thanks
We are planning on visiting Naxos the beginning of April for 4 or 5 days. Any suggestions on where to stay? Any other info would be appreciated.
Is there any opportunity to make one day trips to Mykonos and Delos, from Naxos? How many times a week? Thank
Hello, I would like to know how can we hike in the island of Naxos and also if there are any place in naxos (tourism or something like that) where we can ask for hiking group tours with a guide. And if yes, how many euros can i expect from a daytrip like that. Thanks
Hi. I'm arriving Mykonos this Sunday at 1.20pm (if Easyjet have no delays) and plan to get the ferry across to Naxos that same day. There seems to be only 1 ferry each day which surprised me and the boat is at 2.30pm. I tried all the previously recommended websites and there really does seem to be just the 1 boat each day fromMykonos to Naxos. Does anyone living on Naxos know if that's because not all ferries are published in the schedules? I'm worried about what to do if I miss that boat as even if the flight is on time an hour isn't long for us to collect our bags and get down to the port to find and buy tickets. Are there any later boats or a roundabout way to get to Naxos if we miss that one (without returning to Athens..) Thanks.
first off , thanks for all the help on my previous post its much appreciated, so im in the uk and im limited to kosmar as a tour operator, toyed with the idea of making my own way but girlfriend dosent fancy it{fair enough} anyway long story short weve decided on naxos and narrowed the search down to 3 studios in i think? 2 different areas??.. first is sunny beach studios which i think is in aghios georgios second is ikaros studios which what ive read is st georges beach possibly near aghios georgios????? last possibility is annita studios which i think is in aghia anna??? so ive done some research on these 3 and they all sound good but no one seems to say where they are located i.e noise/ busy roads clubs playing music til all hours etc?? i really like the sound of ikaros studios but im a bit worried about how close it is to naxos town or do i need not to worry? as a rule we avoid the towns and busy nightlife but still like bars tavernas at night but no nightclubs etc places weve been before and liked include, skala potimia in thassos, skala in kefalonia, lindos in rhodes, kefalos in kos, skiathos town, tsvilli in zante, hanioti in halkidiki, places didnt like inc falaraki in rhodes, kardamena in kos..sure you get the picture.. any advice on the studios resorts ot there situations etc and there location to naxos town will be much appreciated, sorry to bang on but you get a picture in your mind of somewhere and i just want to get it right before i book...thanks spencer
hi guys, im new to this forum and need someone to point me in the right direction, so ive decided on goin to naxos this year around july/aug for 2 weeks. first problem is ive looked around the uk tour operators and there only seems to be kosmar who can get me to naxos! is this correct as i dont fancy making my own way there like a lot of people do, second thing can some one tell me the best resort, i looking for somewhere with nice beach, peacefull no nightclubs but with enough taverna/bars to keep us happy will be renting a car etc to see the island but would like a nice base, ive been too many greek islands and always had a good time but places like kos/rhodes/corfu just to commercialised for me prefer places like thassos/lesvos/kefalonia so im i making a good choice in naxos??? in particular is there any resort/accom i should avoid as it looks like il only be able to choose what kosmar has to offer... as much advice will be greatly appreciated or you can email me at ozbod1@ntlworld.com...thanks in advance spencer
Hi there, I am looking for a double room to spend 5 days or so in the summer. I have been to Naxos before and remember Ag. Prokopios was a particularly long beach, one end of which was suprisingly innaccesable (and where clothing was optional lol) and the other end was near Ag. Anna, had a bus / taxi area and a taverna. In particular, there was a bar called 'odyssea' and I stayed in a room owned by the owners of that bar, two German women. I have since lost their details and so I am looking for hotels / rooms in that same area, as close to the beach / bus / taxi etc stop as possible. I would like a range of options as I have not yet decided ether to go cheap, or expensive, Thanks for your help PJ
Hello fellow travellers - Wondering what hikes are good in the interior part of Naxos (Moni, Halki, Apieranthos) & if anyone can recommend accommodation in the small villages. To tour the interior is it best to take a bus, rent a car, take a taxi (are there taxis?) or rent a bicycle. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Hello, I'm planning a holiday to Greece next year for myself and my best friend. It's our first 'girly holiday' abroad but we've opted out of the typical Magaluuf/Kavos hangover type trip which interests neither of us. My friends never been to Greece but I love the country and have previously visited many islands on family holidays such as Corfu, Skiathos, Kefalonia and Crete. In May we visited Thassos (and stayed in the main town) and I absoloutely loved it - has to be my best ever holiday. We're not sure which island to visit next year and want to make the right choice. I've always wanted to go to Naxos but am worried whether there will be enough to do and whether it will give my friend a true first impression of tradtional Greece ( which I have told her of so many times!) We'd like there to be enough nightlife so that if we wanted to go for drinks after a meal we could, but are also happy to discover the traditional Greek tavernas (along with the young and charming Greek waiters! - of which I've also told her of many a time!) If anyone has visited Naxos previously I'd love to know whether you think Naxos would be a good idea for our holiday (We'll be eighteen). Also if anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to know. We've also wondered about going back to Thassos. Thank-you, Amy x x x p.s. How does Naxos compare with other islands in terms of money for eating out? Eg, we found Corfu alot more expensive than the island of Thassos and I've also read that Skiathos compares quite expensively.
Hello, me and my girlfriend have booked flights to Mykonnos in July, we are going to be staying in Naxos and would like to know the best way of getting there (by boat or plane) There doesn't seem to be many ferries to Naxos, I think I should have flown to Santorini, however the flights are booked now and I am a bit stuck! I would really appreciate any help or advice that anyone could give me Thanks, Naz
Hi. I'll be in Naxos towards the end of September and would like to visit Delos without having to stay in Mykonos. Is it possible to do a day excursion from Naxos to Delos? How about from Paros? If this is possible, how do I go about finding the information?
Can anyone suggest a hotel and apartments in Chora, Naxos ranging between 40 - 75 euros a night? I would actually prefer apartments.. Something charming rather than generic would be nice....
Now we, 2, are planning to go to Naxos coming July. Since I went there, I have fallen into love with that island. Whenever we went there, we always used a ferry boat. From our country to Athens by air, then go to Pireus, then took a ferry boat... it's fun but taking a time was problem. I checked charter flights but there was no direct flight to Naxos from any Europe countries. Couldn't you anyone recommend us which way is better to reach to Naxos? I appreciate your kindness in advance.
Any comments about the Ag. Anna beach near the Ag. Anna port? Is it good to swim there? Or should we walk to the Prokopios beach for a swim? How about the restaurants + supermarkets in Ag. Anna? And one more thing... There is this Church in Ag. Anna (near the port?), how early it starts to ring the bells? And is this every morning operation?
How are the buss connections from Agios Prokopios/Anna to the mountain villages? I know there are (at least there should be) good connection between Ag. prokopios/Anna - Chora... But how about the mountains?
Hi! What do you think I can buy from Naxos to bring for my friends? is there nice hand-bags? And are they cheap? Any price exaples? :)
We are spening 5 days in Naxos this coming May/June. I have researched carefully as I was unsure whether to stay in town or on one of the beaches outside of town. But because this is the laid back portion of our trip we want to be close to a nice beach, plus have a pool and kitchenette. I have decided to go south of town and I am thinking about two places on Agios Prokopios, either the Agios Prokopios Hotel or Birakos. I think going farther south might be a bit too far from town for really easy access, however if anyone recommends staying on Agia Anna or Plaka Beach I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. Can anyone comment on either of these hotels or what the difference between might be? From what I have read they both sound great (basic, clean accomodation), both have pools and are roughly the same distance from the beach itself, also both seem to have good reviews. Plus they are in the same price range (Prokopios might be a tiny bit more expensive). I'd be interested in any feedback on these or other places people have experienced.
I'm thinking of a 2 week holiday next year, we where looking at staying just outside Naxos Town at the Ikaros Studios. I've been reading about the Island and it sounds like it's nice and quiet with a few bars, just what we are looking for. Is this correct different websites have different reviews, does Naxos Town get rowdy in June?
