Transportation from Kyoto to Nara and distances once in Nara

by nomad7890 Online Now Aug 19, 2009 at 6:43 AM

I was looking in the keihan train page and saw that there is a train that goes from Kyoto to Nara, however, it seems you need to take a bus after the train drops you off.

Is there any other transportation from Kyoto to Nara that does not involve a transfer?

Once in Nara, is the area walkable - so would this make a good day trip from Kyoto?

We just came back from our Japan trip. Use the JR Nara line taking you directly from Kyoto train station to Nara. No bus required. The journey takes half an hour not more. We actually made a day trip in Nara like that. You can walk to Nara Park in 10 minutes from Nara station. There are so many temples around and if you want to visit more than 3, try to arrive early so that you cover more. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to upload pics and I need time to put these stuff into tips, but I assure you JR line is the most convenient. Enjoy Kyoto and Nara :)

    Hi Nomad.

Check my Japan pages. I made this as a day trip too using Kintetsu Rail Express, it is a standard commuter type train. No bus, no transfers.

Trip took about 45 minutes. The Tourist Info office at the Nara train station is staffed by very pleasant people. I received a free map and a detailed explanation.

    A really nice day out.

The Todaju Temple is a must. Also the National Museum is worth a visit. Enjoy the domestic deer :)
