I knew that Namibian Dollars equals Rand. But recently I read a book about travelling in Namibia, in which told me that Namibian Dollars equals only 70% of Rand in South Africa. Does that mean I can only pay 0.7 rand to buy each Namibian Dollar?! Or that has another meaning?! If I can pay only 0.7 for each, where can I get that rate, in any public bank or bureau de change?! Thanx a lot !!

I think the exchange rates between Namibian Dollars and Rand is 1:1. You can also pay with Rand in Namibia. But I think it only means that the Namibian Dollar is "less worth" than the Rand.

Inside Namibia the two currencies are 1:1 and most shops/hotels/restaurants accept the SA Rand directly and will normally give your change in Namibian money. However, outside Namibia, the position changes. Shops/hotels/restaurants will seldom accept Namibian dollars, and if they do, they will probably give you a value of no better than N$=0.7Rand. When you get back to Taipei, you may also find that your bank will accept SA Rands and Namibian Dollars at two different exchange rates.
