I wonder why you want to go by train if you want to save cost you can go by bus more convenience. I saw many buses at bus station you can use their service easier to go by train and then you have no idea how to communicate with local people. I know the one good travel company maybe they can help you and my family live there they speak English. More information you can contact me email nina.th@hotmail.com

I have taken the bus to Korat several times. From Korat I usually head for Phimai. If you haven't been to Phimai you are missing one of the better restored wats plus a nice museum. Stay at the Phimai Inn on the main highway (near the gas stations.) Along the way to Phimai you will pass the Ban Prasat Archeology project. Bus ride to Phimai is around an hour and is pretty cheap. The bus from Bangkok to Korat drops you off at the bus station not far from the Big C and you can take local transportation to your hotel. Or, you may pass your hotel on the way. I find the bus cheaper than the train and it is not too bad a ride, toilet on board the bus too! Good luck.
