Hi. I've visited nairobi several times over last few years. I stayed at a great and cheap hotel (ksh1200 double) in 2002 but forgot the name and could not find it again - it had marble stairs, really great rooms fpor the price and was near a small taxi/matatu station. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I have stayed at Downtown and Terminal, but looking for something a bit better than that and preferably down Hilton end of town - but still in same price bracket. Does anyone have any suggestions? For myself and girlfriend.

You probably mean 680 ("Six Eighty"), at about 40$. Downtown, in front of Simmers, a great place for a drink. The hotel's ok but not too exciting however. I prefer Oakwood, in front of Stanley and close to Hilton, at about 50$. Nice place. Another option, a bit more expensive (80-90$) and a bit out of the city centre, but otherwise outstanding is Fairview. Have fun, Roel

Not the one you are talking about, and a bit far away (in westlands in front of Sarit Center), is Jacaranda Hotel, absolutely great place (like a 5 star, with swimming pool and all the facilities), for about 70$-80$. Regards, Maria

Could be Marble Arch - just near Akamba bus station and the matatu stage on Lagos road. Prices are more though - around50 US.
