i live in frisco,and my wife has a dr.appointment next week in elisabeth city,how are we going to get off the island if the bridge is down?.
Wouldn't this be best answered by people who live in your area? This is a worldwide travel site with people giving answers to areas or travel spots they know best. I would personally find someone who is handling the emergency management where you live. How does someone get to the hospital? I would think helicopter in an emergency. In non emergency I would think some type of boat.

Is the ferry running? If you started out early, you could take the ferry to Ocracoke and from there to Cedar Island and from there drive up Route 17 to Elizabeth City. If it isn't an emergency, why not call the doctor and reschedule.
