Hello, My wife and I (age 29) will be making a day trip (with a rental car) from Athens to Nafplio and are looking for recomendations on a nice hotel. Nothing fancy but in a nice area close to restaurants/shops and sites and with parking for the rental car (70-110 Euro). Also any recomendations on things to see given the short time period or good restaurants. We are hoping to visit Bourtzi, Palamidi fortress, mycenae and epidavros on our trip to the area as well. Thanks for all your help.
Hello! Within my itinerary, I included Nafplio because I'd like to see the town and also then visit Epidaurus and Mycenae. I wouldn't want to rent a car to move around, I was looking for the option of moving with buses instead. Are there buses that go to the archaeological sites of Epidaurus and Mycenae? could you please give me some tips regarding this? Thank you so much!!
Hi, I'll be flying from Mytilene Island to Athens at the end of August and would like to travel to Nafplio to spend one or two nights there. I know there are buses from Athens but are there any trains departing from the airport to avoid having to go to the bus station? Thanks!
My husband and I are about to leave for Greece, staying most of the trip in Nafplio and traveling the surrounding area and also in Hydra and some in Athens. Any advice on what to see, eat, and do while in that area??? Yes we will rent a car in Nafplio!!
Hi all need some help in finding a guide to show our family around Nafplion, Mycenea and Epidaurus. We are arriving in August (I know, the heat) on board a cruise. Our time is limited 0700-1300 - but our children LOVE Greek mythology and we want to make the most of our visit. Cruise trips spend too much time at the shops - not enough time at the sites. family of 4 - 2 adults/2 kids Should we just hire a local taxi - but that's full of risks as well -- bit Iffy, huh many many thanks g
Hi there Is there any direct bus from Napflion to Piraeus? I am planning to take a ferry down to Santorini and I will need to reach Piraeus by 9am.. Thanks, Allan
Hi, We are planning a Turkey-Greece tour in the near future. Due to limited time (2 weeks), we plan to see Athens, Nafplio, Delphi and Meteora in 3 days. Is it feasible? What is the best route to see Nafplio, Delphi and Meteora? I'm thinking of landing in Athens in the morning, spending the night. On 2nd day driving Delphi then Meteora overnight, the 3rd day drive to Nafplio. Thank you!
Does anyone know how to get from nafplion to Kyparissa - i know there is a bus to Tripoli but cannot find any infomration about bus from Tripoli to Kyparissa or is there an alternative
Hello to All - My wife and I will be coming to the Nafplio area in late June by bus from Athens with nothing but a couple of backpacks and a tent. We are looking for a campsite that is close to Nafplio. Doesn't have to be big or anything special, just a place to set down our tent and sleep. We are planning on moving around a lot during the day and not being so much at the campground. I have read through some of the posts and see that Triton II has been recommended and a campground called Lefkas which I have been unable to locate. I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions, and how easy it is to get from these campsites to Nafplio and other surrounding areas without a car. Thank you!!
would any one know what time the first bus starts from nafplion to athens because we have to be at athens airport for 10am hope you can help many thanks
We are arriving by air in Athens and wish to travel first to Nafplio and then on to Kalamata and finally back to Athens over the course of two weeks. Is it possible to make this trip by bus? If so, can anyone give advice on routes, schedules, cost etc. Would a rental car be a better option even if we will not use it for the week we are in Kalamata as we will be sailing that week? Any advice appreciated.
My husband and I cannot decide what to do for transportation. We are limited with funds but what to see everything. We fly into Athens and are traveling to Hydra, back to Athens then to Nafplio. Should we rent a car? Is there enough public transportation in Athens, Hydra, and Nafplio to see everything without needing a car? What would someone recomend?
Hi , At the end of March we will be traveling from Hyrda to Nafplio and then from Nafplio to Athens Airport. What is the best way to travel via public transportation ( train, bus, boat)? If public transportation is out of the question, what are the alternatives? Are there shared taxis? Thanks very much.
We will be visiting the area from April 1-11 and have just learned that the Greek holiday runs the week before and after Easter. Question is: in light of the Greek people vacationing in the area during this time, should we pre-book all of our stays throughout the Pelopponese? Other than pre-booking our Nafplio stay, we were going to make last minute bookings. I want to spend time in Monemvasia but have been informed that the minimum booking at Hotel Malvasia is 4 nights during Easter break. If we do stay there that long, what can we take in for day trips. Thank you, Carol
Hello Wise Ones, Thank you for your assistance. May I now present my itinerary for your opinions? April 1 - Athens to Nafplio - by bus April 1,2,3,4 - 3 days/4 nights in Nafplio (hotel booked) - touring by bus April 5 - Rent Car in Nafplio - drive coast to Monemvasia, spend 1 night April 6 - Explore Monemvasia and Dirou Caves, drive north to Mystras, spend 1 night April 7 - Drive east to Koroni, Methoni and Pylos, spend 1 or 2 nights Drive North to Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, spend 1 or 2 nights I'm thinking of staying somewhere closer to AThens the last night so our drive isn't long/stressful. Any ideas? April 11th - Drive to Athens Airport, drop off rental car there. Flight leaves Athens at 1:30 pm, Sunday I didn't plan on booking accommodations anywhere 'til we get there (other than Nafplio) using a mobile phone. There will be 2 drivers to help with that task. Is this itinerary overdoing it? I appreciate all advice. Sincerely, Carol
From the lady who asked the question about taxi/bus travel from athens airport to Nafplio....she actually found the answer by applying herself to the existing wealth of information online. Who knew?
We will be landing in Athens @ 6:00 pm the night before Good Friday. It will be dark before we get into Nafplio, so I'm wondering about paying a taxi (how much) or whether an evening bus is possible from the airport. We are staying 4 nights in Nafplio. Can we see all the sights using public transport (Easter Weekend)? If this is doable, then we will rent a car after our four days in Nafplio to continue our exploration of the Peloponnese.
We will be in Nafplio with a cruise ship from 7am to 3pm and would like to go to see the theatre in Epidurus by bus. Please advise on how to do that. Thank you in advance.
Hello... Arriving by cruise ship from 7 AM staying till 1 PM. Where is the main shopping street from where the tenders drop you off? How far is it? What time do the stores/ restaurants open and close on a weekday? Thank you very much for any info.
We will be on a cruise ship stopping in Navplion for one-day. We aren't crazy about taking the organized tours promoted by the ship. Any suggestions for getting around the region. Looking for local tour company or transportation to Corinth, Mycenae and/or Epidaurus. I looked into car rentals and didn't find anything convenient. Have others found lots of options when they disembarked from the ship? Thanks ........ Carol
In May I will be travelling to Nafplio from Patras by public transport (I do not drive). Please can you tell me the easiest way to get there? When I leave I will be going to Piraeus and I would like to know the best way to get there and if it is possible to go directly or do I have to go via Athens. Many thanks.

We're off to Nafplio next year (2009) for a friend's wedding and as there's a group of us who've all been good friends since school-days, we want to turn the event of a wedding into an excuse for a group holiday! We're in our early-thirties (there'll be about 14-16 of us) and enjoy eating out in good restaurants and spending time in good bars. Equally we'll need get hold of a villa or two to house us! Does anybody have any recommendations about where would be best to stay? Would Nafplio itself keep us entertained for a week? or is there a better alternative not too far away? Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm trying to gather whether or not it would be realistic to see both ancient Mycenae as well as Epidaurus in one (long) day from Athens, using public transportation. There are many many guided tours that follow this path, but I'm hoping to be able to save some money and do it on my own. Can anyone offer any advice?
Can anyone give me contact info for an overnite tour that would take us from Nafplio to Meteora and back? Thanks!!!
