Driving down to Muscat from Dubai

Hi: We are driving in a sedan car down to Muscat from Dubai this month end for 5-6 days. We would ideally want to do the following: a. Drive through the coast (time is not a constraint). b. Camp 1 night in a safe place with other tourists around. c. Watch dolphins from the best possible place. d. Any other places in & around Muscat that are of historical/geographical importance & safe to drive. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
