    • Worried about visit to St. Petersburg in May

Saint Petersburg Mar 26, 2014 at 2:23 PM

Going to St. Petersburg in May (2014). We are Canadian, in our 60's and going on our own for 5 days. Already have our VISA. Coming in from Helsinki on train. Frankly we are very concerned about what we might face when we get there given all that is happening ..... Should we be worried? Our consulate website basically says nothing except that they have limited services now. (They closed the St. Petersburg branch)
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

      Buying Train Tickets Online

      Russia Apr 20, 2014 at 8:08 AM

I'm trying to buy a St Petersburg to Moscow train ticket using rdz.ru The site takes me through the reservation and the payment with no problems (I've created a log-in profile) but after I've completed the payment bit, including the security verification, it declines the transaction.

I'm in the UK, using a Visa debit card.

Has anyone else here had similar problems?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Murmansk to Saint Petersburg May 2014

by MarkAS2013 Online Now Aug 27, 2013 at 6:06 PM

I am hoping to find suitable tours for Northern Russia.

I arrive in Kirkenes Norway on 5th May 2014 and wish to be in Saint Petersburg by 16th May 2014. I understand that I will need to travel from Kirkenes to Murmansk by bus.

I am seeking any information regarding tours in the region of Russia from Murmansk to Saint Petersburg preferably by train
I am seeking assistance with not only stopovers and sites to see, but also the support of English-speaking guides in the recommended locations, purchase of tickets and (budget) accommodation. I will be travelling alone.
I welcome any suggestions you might make.
      Regards
      Mark

    • What tour to take while in Murmansk for 1 day?

by Jean2010 Online Now Apr 6, 2011 at 6:57 AM

We arrive on Sunday, June 19th.
Since we will only have a group Visa, we must take one of the 5 ship tours, or sign up for an individual guided tour which will be very expensive I'm afraid. (They are not posted yet.)
My husband is interested in the nuclear ice-breaker and ship museum.
But I'm afraid we will not see much else.
If we take that tour, will we get to at least drive through the city, or is the museum and ice-breaker near where the cruise ship docks?
I'd like to do a little shopping too - would anything be open on Sunday?
      Thoughts please!

    • Day Trip in Murmansk -Arriving by Cruise Ship

by jeana-r Online Now Apr 21, 2009 at 7:11 AM

      Hi,
Will be stopping in Murmansk this summer on a cruise ship, and want to see a little of the city. Since I work on the ship, I am not certain I will get a tour so I need to plan an independent one. Can anyone tell me how easy difficult it will be to get around from the ship terminal; I realize I will have to get a visa but I am wondering if there are local (English speaking) tour operators who can provide a day tour with a blanket visa and what I might be able to see either with them or on my own.
      Many thanks.

Hi. Me and a friend are planning on taking the Trans-siberian express ending in Moscow this winter. From there we hope to go to Murmansk. From there to Finland before flying home. Does anybody know the best/easiest way to get to Murmansk from Moscow and the best/easiest from Murmansk to Finland. Both journeys will be in December.

Also if anyone has any ideas how to get from northern Finland to the U.K. cheaply and easily this will be VERY helpful!

      Thanks for your help!

Hi, Any info. on Murmansk as a place to visit for 4/5 days in the month of either May or June? I`m thinking of visiting there next year and would like to know if its worth the stop.I can only select a maximum of 6 cities on my Visa, so i want to check out each one before hand. Is Murmansk safe for lone backpackers? Would it be too cold to do outdoor exploring in late April/Early May? Any info.or strange tales appreciated. Thanks.
