Hi! I'm going to stay a few hours between flights in Munich on 30th June. I'm thinking what tickets I should buy just to get to the centre, have lunch, stroll for a while, take some photos and come back to the airport. I remember that in Germany there are ticket machines at the S(U)-Bahn stops/ stations. Am I right? Thanks, Piotr
Could you tell me the exact price of a return ticket from the airport to the centre? The zones of public transport should be counted as the fare is concerned. Is it easy to discern?

The Munich public transport site (google mvv+de) says there is an airport-city-ticket for E11. You buy the ticket in the airport or on the platform of the s-bahn station within the airport itself. I think the lines are S1 or S8, both go into the central city, main station or Marienplatz, which is probably the better spot for a quick look around. Be aware that Munich airport is a long way out of the city, it,s a 45 minute ride each way.

That ticket is a pass for both directions and you son,t need to validate it.

The S8 is quicker by 11 minutes so I would use that seeing you don,t have much time. If you go into the MVV website you can select English if you want to and there are maps, routes and so on on there.

Thank you for the detailed info. I arrive at 8.15 to Munich and depart at 14.45. I guess that break tempts to come by to the downtown for a while. Heard many approving remarks on the spot. Piotr

Sorry countrycousin but it isn,t complicated at all, the ticket machines allow you to select your language and you just keep selecting the menu options you want.

The whole reason we told the poster to get the Airport city ticket at a ticket machine is because he doesn,t need the stripe cards, he can get the ticket Abalada and I suggested as it is simple, buy the ticket, no need to validate, and just travel into the city and back when he wishes. I never buy the stripe cards in Muncih as they are complex, you need to know how many stripes to validate, the Isarkarte is much more user friendly and even a day pass is easy to use. For other people using the Bayernkarte public transport in Munich is covered.

Exactly, I bought an Airport Ticket, spending 11 euros. It was easy. I love Germany, the way public things are organised.
