Hi, I will be in Mumbai for 3 days with some friends in Oct and have a few questions. --I was wondering what people recommend as the essential must sees/must do. --We love market shopping but as we only have a limited time would like to know what is the best one for clothes, jewellery, trinkets etc. --Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced accommodation, like a nice clean, central youth hostel. --How is the best way to get from the airport to the city centre and finally --What is the best way to get from Mumbai to Goa, flight, train, bus etc ??? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks. Clo.
Hi - Things to do: Elephanta Island, Crawford Market, Chowpatty/Juhu Beach, Gateway of India, Explore Colaba, Mani Bhavan/Gandhi House, Dhobi Ghats, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Prince of Wales/Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum, various temples and churches. A good way to get to know the city is to walk. Lots of great architecture/heritage buildings in the city - Colaba area, Asiatic Library, General Post Office, Rajabai Clock Tower, etc., etc. When shopping in the markets, be sure to bargain! There are alot of stalls on Colaba Causeway - lots of tourists - not one on my favorite places to shop. There is a Central Cottage Industries Corporation (CCIC) near the Gateway - fixed prices - alot of handicrafts. I like Bandra (Linking Road area). Lots of stalls with clothes, shoes, as well as all kinds of stores. Lots of good restaurants there as well. I also love the Vile Parle market - it's a real "local" market - clothes, bangles, etc. The best way to the city from the airport is pre-paid taxi. Make sure the driver takes the Bandra Worli Sea Link Bridge to save quite a bit of time. The trip will likely take an hour - more if it's during rush hour - less if it's 2 a.m. Please send my budget accommodation tips on my Mumbai page ("My Second Home" - Mumbai by Donna_in_India - as well as additional information about things to do, warnings, restaurants, etc. The best way from Mumbai to Goa is by plane. There are several good budget options - Spice Jet, GoAir, Indigo, Jet Lite, and Kingfisher Red. Check sites such as makemytrip.com or cleartrip.com to compare the fares and then book directly on the specific airline's sites. Book early for the best fares. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. Enjoy Mumbai (& Goa)!

Hi Ryan - the tip is here - "Limited Budget Choices...." - Mumbai Hotel Tip by Donna_in_India. I would recommend that you google any of the places mentioned though just to see if they are still as good (or at least as okay!) as they were. Another place to check is IndiaMike.com. Many of those travelers are budget travelers so you should find some info there. Good luck!
