Hi, Was wondering how crowded the trains would be going from Bandra towards Mahalaxmi, starting at 0700-0730 in the mornings?
Would it be a great experience, as in empty trains, breezy with being able to stick my head out through the doors?
Thanks for any insights :-)
DB
This site has the timetable and it looks as if there are trains every few minutes. As it is rush hour in the city i suspect the train will be crowded and that will be a real experience!!!

Depends on what your idea of a great time is! :-) Since it's morning rush hour it will be packed. Those Andheri/Western lines can be crazy! It's not likely you'll be hanging your head out the door - more likely you'll be squeezed up against a group of travelers trying to breathe. It's really NOT fun. :-)

Haha, no he cannot sit on the roof without special training. ;-))
Take a look at this and decide for yourself if this looks like a great experience!! youtube.com/watch?v=1eAP-Box...">youtube.com/watch?v=1eAP-Box...

That's the wrong time of day to go from Bandra to Mahalaxmi station. But you could try one of the Bandra locals that start from Platform # 2 in the morning hours sometimes. These are very few and rare so please check on the timings if you wish to ride one of these. Otherwise it will be very difficult to board any of the other trains coming from the north going towards Churchgate. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Aadil.

So what time in the morning could one ride in uncrowded conditions please? I want to go to Haji Ali Durga early, to see the shrine & area without the crowds!!

You can either miss the crowds on the train or miss the crowds at Haji Ali. Tough to do both at the same time.

There will be no crowds during that time, particularly on Sat and Sun days. U can even plan 6.30-7.00 am too, which will be more pleasant from Bandra to Mahalaxmi in a SLOW train.

Thanks Subrahmaniyam :-) What sort of requency/regularity are these 'slow' trains? BTW I did not mean skipping crowds at H/A, my main concern is reaching there without facing the 'sardine squeeze' ;-) Thanks everyone.

You get trains just every 2/3 minutes.
Early mornings crowds will be few.

Haji Ali Dargah in the morning would be a bit less crowded but not on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays when it is crowded almost all the time. You would have to leave really early like about 6:00 to 7:30 am to go to Mahalaxmi from Bandra in the morning without crowds in the slow train. It would be best to take a train which starts from Bandra if you go anytime after 8 am. Hope this helps.

Should be wonderful if you take the trains between 6:30- 7:30 am only, after that crowds start building up for the daily office routines.

Your Best bet is the go First Class. It will be Crowded as well. Dont carry anything valuable in case it gets nicked. Earlier the Better.
