Train is the only way. Local buses do not cross the border except to and from the airport and Swiss buses to a couple of French villages near Basel. There are trains at least every 20 - 30 minutes for most of the day from 0442 weekdays, 0730 on Saturdays, 0856 on Sundays and Holidays. The journey takes 21 - 20 minutes.

Trains do not operate late into the night. Last trains are :

    Weekdays 1952 then at 2045, 2148 and 2252
Saturdays the last train is at 2045
Sundays and Holidays at 2045 then 2252

The ticket is either €5,90 or €6,60 depending on which train you take.

You can check times of trains for a particular date and time at www.voyages-sncf.com or at www.sbb.ch

Downloadable and printable timetables are normally available from the French regional railway website www.ter-sncf.com but that is currently off-line for maintenance! Only the French do 'essential maintenance work' on weekdays during office hours.

    Thanks for the prompt answer.

    1) Do we have to book the ticket in advance? Is it possible to buy from the ticket counter at the train station?

    2) Is Mulhouse Vile the main TGV station?

Cheers, trying to rent a car in France is also a nightmare. The rental office is closed from 12 to 2 for lunch and most of our arrival time is around that period, losing potential 2 hours of valuable travel time.

tmpaca - I worked weekends on 'essential maintenance work' in England to keep things working on weekdays for the majority of users. Yes I was paid extra for it.

But you are right I think, France and also Portugal where I now live seem to think that no-one needs to work at weekends except for the unfortunates in shops and bars.
