Registration for short term visit

by schmechi Online Now Mar 27, 2013 at 2:28 AM

Regarding my guide, we have to register, if we stay more than 3 days. But our host told me, that we will not have to register up to five days, if we have tickets of the arrival and departure. So which information is correct?

Or you can ask them - try to ask, that is :)

Are you coming on a private invitation? I guess it's possible to register by mail, Still, it's a lot of headache for your host, no wonder he/she would prefer to escape it

You need registration if you are staing in Russia more than 7 days.

Did I get it right that you come from Austria? Here is the link to your consulate in Moscow:

    bmeia.gv.at/botschaft/moskau...;

Surely they are no authority for an occasional Moscow policeman, but it is better to have an expert's written advice than any specultation, even if we laymen can drop in some valuable 5 cents.

legislation really changed, and now foreigners can stay in the Russian Federation 7 days without registration. for example If you cross the border on Monday, you have to register under the new rules by Tuesday next week, and on Wednesday, may already have problems with the law.

Besides, "Under constuction ;)" - schmechi's Profile members.virtualtourist.com/o...>, you did get your visa?

You can well ask the same people who issued it all your registration questions - they are the ones who are obliged to know, for my taxes and the consular duty you paid them; then copy, print and wave in front of the nose of any policeman.

Oh, it’s just a beginning and believe me it’s even worse for locals! Unfortunately bureaucracy (19th century' type of it)) rules Russia. By the way, when you will be there pls carry with you a copy of your passport and visa. Just in case.

    Hello!

Looks like You have outdated information in your guide.

You can find official information about registration here:

    fms.gov.ru/documents/migrate...

Accroding this article you have to fill migration card and show it in the hotel.

    Good point, Nuberoid.
Not sure there will be any hotel in the case of the Original Poster, though.

Just back from a private visit to southern Russia. One has 7 days in which to register. Note: the appropriate office is usually closed on Mondays! Host did the registration and it took maximum 60 minutes, most of which was consumed by having the correct document/form filled in by the official form-filling-in office. Then to another adjacent office for The Stamp. Granted it could take longer but am told not that much longer, as having 7 days to register has cut down on the processing time. All very straightforward and efficient. Host requires passport but not the holders thereof! However, it is interesting just to go along and see the process in action!! You will receive a receipt. Hang on to this. You will not need it again but one never knows!! Our receipts were carefully returned to us at each stage of the exit from Russia. Not look at, sifted out and passed back. They are only interested in the Migration Card and the visa. Btw, I am told that 'soon' this registration will be able to be done online by the host!!
