Have a look at www.booking.com - randomly selecting a June date I find hotels from £26 to £500 per night and lots in between. Note that the very cheap ones are shared-room "hostels" not hotels and always check recent reviews as these are written by people who have booked and stayed there through www.booking.com

Have a look at www.booking.com (which a lot of us here use). Doing a random date in mid-June I get hotels from £25 GBP up to £500 GBP and plenty in between. NOTE that cheap places are often HOSTELS, not hotels and so double check the exact wording. Also read the recent reviews as these are written by people who have used booking.com and have stayed in the hotel. Also double check the location as some of the cheaper places are quite far out of the city centre.

Double answer because my first attempt took me to "page not found".

Another vote for using www.booking.com Whilst I have not yet visited Moscow I use it almost exclusively for my European (and often US) trips. I've always found the hotel to be exactly as I expected from its information page and reviews (which, as John says, can only be posted by people who book through the site and complete their stay). It lists chain hotels such as Holiday Inn as well as the independents.

Izmailovo complex could be the cheapest among 3-stars hotel (http://www.izmailovo.ru/eng/rooms/), 5 stops by metro from Kremlin (around 15 minutes).
this service could help as well: inyourpocket.com/russia/Mosc...

I absolutely disagree that Moscow isn't safe city. Moscow is much safer than European cities in my opinion.

Agree about www.booking.com, will actually use them myself for May holidays in Moscow countriside
Not agree about safety - with both :) It hugely depends on what your idea of safety is. Don't pack a Kalashikov, anyway.

well, if you are not searching for problems, you will not get it in Moscow :-) From my experience, it doesn't work in Paris city, for example :-) besides tourists are not so much interesting in Moscow urban districts where, of course, you easily can find adventures on one's head :-)) So, I'm still vote for safe Moscow (although i am not native Moscovite and live in Moscow only last 17 years :-) (including some "urban districts" :-))

One more vote for booking. com: ''last 5 years I book mainly through it and consider it as quite liable with best price and adequate rating: have booked the hotel in Moscow myself 2 days ago ''Garden Ring hotel. Never stayed before but visited often for bankomat, because normally I stay at my friend's apartment few blocks away) - excellent position concerning metro, safe area (we walked several times from Red Square to Kapelsky at midnight and even later without any problems). And one of my favorite parks in neighbourhood (Aptekarsky Ogorod) - to relax in the centre of big city (http://hortus.ru/.). The price is high, even for Moscow ( I guess, because of position and SPA centre), but it's my present for my 82 years old mama - she deserves it))) So you can have a look at this option too). Agree with Bugulma - Ismailovskoye is very good budget option.
