Hello, Has anyone of you stayed in Riad Fabiola or in Riad Julia in Marrakech? They both have a swimmingpool, which will be great, as we're travelling in july. Both have also airconditioning and the prices are the same (40-45 euro for a night breakfast included for 2 people or 3 kids) Riad Julia is closer to Djemaa el Fna square for sure. Has anyone stayed here and can help me further? I'm still in search for nice accomdation in Tinerhir and Merzouga, any recommendations?
Not a first hand experience but... it's better than nothing a good friend stayed a couple of years ago at Riad Julia and warmly recommended it. Unfortunately it was fully booked when i travelled to Marrakech.

Hi, have a look at my tips/recommendations for Merzouga and Rissani wbich is the town just out of the desert. There are a number of hotels around Merzouga Id recommend - Dunes D'or (not to be confused with most definitely not recommended Sable D'or), and Timbuktu and Auberge du Sud with an added choice of quite contemporarily designed rooms - no airconditioning when we stayed there though, which are places with signposted roads off the main tarsealed road to Merzouga or Chez Julia which is in the settlement of Merzouga and run by Europeans and has a good reputation. Most recommended would be to take a trip out by camel into the desert and stay the night or at least a couple of hours trip to see sunset or sunrise by camel. All auberges can provide/arrange these - no tour agency is needed. The hotels ive recommended on the Rissani page are hotels i really like and got good value and service there. Theres a company run by Alessandra and her Moroccan husband that has received good recommendations and do more luxury overnight stays into the desert. There are a couple of big hotels in Tinerhr but Id not stay in Tinerhr unless I really had to, instead staying at special and must see spots along the way/nearby such as up the Dades Gorges - i have a tip there of 2 hotels i recommend - or up just past the Todra Gorges at Tamtatouche. Or Id stay prior to there at Telouet or Anmiter, or Ouarzazate. Up near the Ziz valley just north of Merzouga I recommend a gite at Zouala just south of Blue Meski. As per VTveens previous post Hotel Sherazade is well recommended as is also www.jnanemogador.com which is a riad at much lower prices than usual and therefore advanced bookings are required. both places are very handy/in the medina/old centre.

Hi, Thank you so much for your answer. I was kind of surprised to get a reaction of you, because I "knew" you already. Í've read your tips on Laos so many times, especially the one about Pak Beng. We finally travelled 6 weeks through Laos and Thailand last summer. I'm still building my Vt pages about that trip. And I have my own website www.boschgoesasia.web-log.nl but it is all in dutch language. By the way- we stayed in a marvellous teakwooden hotel in Pak Beng for only 450 bath a night which was a bargain. I think this small village has changed a lot since you visited it, but still no electricity after dark... But now to the point Morocco this summer..... I think we'll go for Riad Julia if they have space, but they don't answer to my mails so far. The Riad Fabiola only had very expensive suites available, which we cannot afford, the cheaper rooms were booked. And I've got more positive reactions on Riad Julia, so I hope it will be working out fine. I'll check your Morocco pages for more tips! Thankx once more, Lianne

Heel veel plezier in Marrakech in ieder geval! Groetjes Lianne
