Grand Canyon South Rim would make the most sense unless you've already been there? What time of year are you going?

from Monument Valley, going south, you could stop at Cameron Trading Post only 30 minutes from the Grand Canyon park entrance you can finish your visit going out from South Entrance and back to Las Vegas happy driving. Btw I suggest to go to GC very early morning.

I'm thinking that it would make sense to leave for the canyon after the tour at Monument Valley, and stay overnight there before going to Vegas the next day. Pre-booking is usually necessary at the South Rim though; that's why I'm wondering when (how soon) this trip is. Yes, coming from MV, enter the canyon via the east entrance at Cameron, and leave via the south entrance; down to Williams and then west to Vegas.

Sorry, Poppy - was posting at the same time as you. :O) YES, if you have not been to the Grand Canyon, that is a MUST SEE. I would highly recommend spending the night there (INSIDE the park) so you can see the sunset/sunrise over the canyon; call right now for hotel reservations in the park as it's a popular destination: nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/l... grandcanyonlodges.com/Lodgin... Any reason this wouldn't appeal to you, and other suggestions are needed?

If you have already seen the Grand Canyon and don't want to see it again, then an alternate route would be to return by way of Page, Arizona (visit Lake Powell) and then Zion National Park in Utah.

Goulding's Lodge - right outside Monument Valley entrance - a great place to stay if you want to hang about MV for the afternoon as well. Otherwise Flagstaff (4 hours southwards) or Page for Lake Powell is a three hour drive from MV and Paige is a further five hours' drive from LV.

I made a fabulous trip from Vegas to Brice and Grand Canyons and Monument Valley, returning to Vegas. It allowed us to stay two nights in the southern rim, have lunch in Monument Valley, and to flight over the fabulous Powell lake, Rainbow Bridge, and Hoover dam. The aerial trip was not cheap, but, knowing that in Vegas the room's price doubles in weekends, we did it from Friday to Sunday, saving a few hundred dollars. My pages of Vegas, Grand Canyon and Monument Valley reflect the experience
