Hi, I'm from Barcelona (spain) and I will travel in June 2004 from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City crossing Monument Valley by car. It's possible to do it in 2 days? I'm thinking about to sleep close to Monument Valley. Please, can you help me about what road take? How I should do this travel? Thanks in advanced.
It's possible, but you will spend a LOT of time driving. You have to decide if it's worth it to you. Here are some directions from www.mapquest.com : From Salt Lake City: I-15 S toward LAS VEGAS. 45.2 miles Merge onto US-6 E via exit number 261 toward US-89 E/PRICE/MANTI. 151.4 miles Take the US-191 exit- exit number 180- toward MOAB. 0.4 miles Turn RIGHT onto US-191. 106.0 miles Turn LEFT onto US-191/S MAIN ST. Continue to follow S US-191. 30.0 miles Stay straight to go onto US-163/UT-163. 41.0 miles Total Est. Time: 7 hours, 44 minutes Total Est. Distance: 376.74 miles From Monument Valley: US-163/UT-163. Continue to follow US-163 south. 23.6 miles Turn RIGHT onto US-160. 31.9 miles Turn RIGHT onto AZ-98. 66.9 miles Turn RIGHT onto US-89. 74.8 miles Turn RIGHT onto S 100 E/US-89/100 ST E. Continue to follow US-89. 17.4 miles Turn LEFT onto UT-9. 44.6 miles Turn LEFT onto UT-9/N STATE ST/S 100 ST W. Continue to follow UT-9. 12.4 miles Merge onto I-15 S. 125.2 miles Take the WASHINGTON AVE exit- exit number 44. 0.2 miles Turn RIGHT onto W WASHINGTON AVE. 0.1 miles Turn LEFT onto D ST. 0.2 miles Turn LEFT onto W BONANZA RD/NV-579. Continue to follow W BONANZA RD. 0.6 miles End at Las Vegas NV Total Est. Time: 8 hours, 24 minutes Total Est. Distance: 399.12 miles There are other routes you can take besides these, but these are those recommended by mapquest. Consider that you will be driving about 400 miles/ 650 km each day of this 2 day trip. So total about 800 miles/1300 kms! Once you are here in the States it would be a good idea to buy the Rand McNally Road Atlas. Southern Utah has many amazing places. If you want to make less of a detour from SLC to Las Vegas you could also check out Bryce National Park and/or Zion National Park. It would still be kind of a rushed visit, but it wouldn't be as much driving as to Monument Valley.
