Good eats around our hotel in Montreal

We are only in Montreal for 24hrs, and we are staying at the Marriott Hotel Champlain. We want to try an eatery near our hotel that will leave us with good memories and not so empty pockets--the food doesn't have to be 5 star since we are more into ambience and uniqueness of the eatery over price/quality etc. Anything remarkable we can try within a 1/2km distance or so? For example, in Italy we went to a 'happening' little spot for apperitivo and it was so wildly designed inside and the finger foods were awesome and we got well fed for under 15euros each. Anything like that?
